Ibis Budget Koeln Marsdorf
Ranked #68 of 263 Hotels in Cologne

This hotel is very out of of the town, though a Tram service is available at a 5 mins walk. But check out for this tram as its frequency is less and not there on sundays after a specific time in evening. There is wifi available here, breakfast is ok ok types. Rooms are very very small. The price should be even lesser then they are charging currently. But not a bad option for 1 night stay during visit to cologne. In case you are having huge luggage and using public transport, avoid this hotel as you need to walk from train station to here and the rooms are very small.

The hotel is fairly newly decorated and that is obvious to see (visited December 2013). As a result it is very clean but the lobby area smells intensely of cigarette smoke and this lingers throughout the building (including the non-smoking rooms on the third floor). For someone who is very sensitive to this it was rather unpleasant.

The rooms are only appropriate for single traveller or a couple as the shower with a glass wall opens out into the main room. It's a 1 star facility so you expect it to be basic but if you are travelling budget for a business you may need to invest in a blindfold for your colleague.

The 'wardrobe' comprises a 6inch (15cm) tube protruding from the wall with 3 non-removable coat hangers attached. You could possibly hang up a suit.

Location wise don't expect to do anything in the nearby area unless it is work-based. It is quite an industrial area. The tram line is (for me) a 5 minute walk away and throughout the day there are trams into Cologne between every 10 to 30 minutes maximum (unless you come back very late). This is very convenient. There is only one tram line back to Marsdorf so it is very easy to make sure you get the right one back (number 7 line to Frechen). On the way in you literally can't go wrong. Time to centre of town is more like 20 minutes (not 15) but still pretty good as long as you don't want to be going back and forth regularly.

Although near a major city I can't help but feel the room prices are a little on the steep side. I think if I'd paid for a room (rather than the company) I would have gone for a slightly better quality hotel for not much more money. Fundamentally nothing 'wrong' with the stay aside from the smoke smell (which becomes a taste as well after a few hours). Served its purpose.

Have been traveling to Koeln for several business occasions, the stay in this Ibis was the worst..thought you may call hotel business as the hospitality industry..this definition does not apply to this hotel.Having towels is a luxury..hotel is understaffed, mis represented on the net ,no public transportation except a very slow metro station which ends up that you take hour to reach your destination in the city center..worst place to stay.

A good budget option for Cologne especially if you have a foreign car as it is outside the emissions zone. While a distance from the city, the Tram line 7 is a short walk away with a day ticket costing 8 euros. A typical IBIS budget.
