This exceptional bargain hotel delivers on its promise: unique accomodations at reasonable prices. The rooms are spotless and very well designed. The bathroom is well laid out, and the public areas decorated with inspiring art. The included breakfast is satisfactory and the location is close to public transportation that can take you downtown in minutes (it's not very close to major tourist destinations).

my 17 year old son was in Cologne on work experience and stayed here on his own - which they were really cool about. I I went over to meet him, and I've travelled a lot and am fussy about hotels, but the Hopper was just really really good. They looked after him while he was on his own and nothing was too much trouble. Its in a good location - 5 min walk from the main shopping area and has a tube stop 2 mins away.
would definitely go back.

As everyone else says, superclean hotel. The rooms had great high ceilings which made it feel airy. Very quiet neighbourhood but not too far to walk to the centre. We had been to a festival so were happy to stay somewhere so comfortable and clean. The biggest bonus for us was that although we turned up without a booking they could still accommodate our (225cm high) day van - the underground car park has a height restriction of 190cm but they managed to borrow a space in the courtyard from the conference centre. A total result after struggling with the parking issue in Bruges / Belgium!

This hotel is spotless, charming and in a neighborhood full of trendy bars and restaurants. But the hotel kept falling short of expectations. There are no alarm clocks, coffee makers or irons in the rooms. In fact, there seemed to be only a handful of irons in the entire hotel. There is no soap, shampoo or lotion provided, only a dispenser of hand/body wash in the shower and by the sink. The fitness room, while open 24 hours, is tiny and unventilated with two old cardio machines and one weight-lifting machine that was broken. The highly touted free WiFi stopped functioning after my first night there. I could go on. The hotel has the potential to be great, but it seems to have cut a few too many corners. (Still, if you can find a really good deal, it's not a bad place to spend a few nights.)

At the suggestion of expat friends Michelle & Tom Gross, who are living in Cologe for a year on a business assignement, we booked a room at the Hopper. Heard in elevator that rooms were tiny, but hey we are in Europe, we expected that...not ours! Maybe it's the room we got but it had a darling balcony with 2 chairs overlooking courtyard and neighborhood, a HUGE window that opened up to let in fresh air on the street side. International CNN and at least one other English channel made TV worth watching since we don't speak German. Breakfast was included and it was a full buffet with eggs, bacon, potatoes...like a Sunday brunch! Really filled us up until middle of afternoon. Tiny "gym" room with steam, a few machines & weights that we didn't use. Front desk staff all very freiendly and speak perfect English (don't take AMEX!)....would recommend to anyone who wants to walk around Cologne as only about a 10 minute walk to shopping streets, Dom cathedral, etc. Had a safe, two "wardrobes" with shelves and hanging racks so we each had a closet! Great bathroom with just a shower, but huge makeup mirror, good blow dryer and a mini-bar. Nice touches. The douvets were soft & fluffy and white, like you would buy for your own home! After seven days of train travel throughout southern Germany, my family and I were ready for a little pampering in Cologne. We received it at the Hopper et cetera. Small things like complimentary internet and prompt housekeeping services are welcome to travelers. The rooms are exceptionally clean, modern and comfortable. The varied, complimentary breakfast is available between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., which makes an early or late breakfast possible. With the morning feast, we were able to spend many hours sightseeing and shopping without needing to think about food. The staff was plentiful, courteous and professional. Taxis were immediately called when requested and several dinner suggestions were made for us, which we appreciated. I really have nothing negative to say about this excellent hotel. I will definitely re-book with Hopper when we are next in the Cologne area. There are two other Hopper hotels in Cologne, which look as promising as this interesting hotel.

We stayed here with a mixed group of friends and were very pleasantly surprised at how much character the building has and how clean and friendly we found the hotel.
My room was spacious and had more than enough amenties, the breakfast was more than ample and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. There was even free cake in the foyer!
The location was just out of the central tourist area- perhaps a 20 minute walk to the Cathedral however there are lots of great bars and restaurants very near the hotel. I would definitely stay there again.
