We booked five superior rooms for seven nights. Honestly, the hotel is reasonable quality. The reception staff were good except for one old lady.

We had booked superior room which included free mini bar (2 beers, choc, soft drinks and water), free prem wifi and breakfast. However, we had to call and remind the staff to refill the mini bar and coffee/tea facilities daily, if not, they were not refilled, even though it is charged/included in the rates.

The breakfast was very average, all the seven days we got same food, no changes.

Breakfast area seems to be not organized well, it was expo time, however at times we felt the BF was handled by minimal staff. Most of the times the tables were not cleaned and coffee was not available on time.

The room was very warm, outside also, the hotel did not switch on the air con, which was slightly annoying.

House keeping was not up to the mark, cleaning was very average, might be due to full house. Toilets and rooms were not cleaned properly.

There were only open cupboard. Electronic safe was available.

The hotel location is close to the rhine, however the location is slightly off the city. It required a good 30-45mts to the Cathedral or City Cent. We had to hire a cab each time we have to go out.

The health club was 24hrs available, due to this reason we had booked this hotel. However, we felt the rooms and the hotel is very average, hence, not sure, will return to this property next year. We may next time opt for a hotel close to the cathedral.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floor with front/river view is good. Room No 501...

The lining is old. The whole furniture is old. The breakfast has a limited choice.
The gym is ok, full of Technogym.
Also the sauna is ok.

Staff is friendly.
Price is ok for what you get, but the sense of old stuff you have in the room is unfortunately not giving a pleasant experience.

We came late night, got a room pretty quickly which was nice, the staff was nice. Room was big but the carpet was stained in a lot of places and looked old. Ok beds and bathroom but the shower was a joke. Not worth the price in my opinion.

Business hotel 15mins walk from the centre. Not a scenic route but got a deal on the hotel. Tried to use the sauna one night but it was switched off so perhaps request to have it turned on in advance. Quite a spacious room with a sofa. Breakfast wasn't included so we went to a lovely cafe in town.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room at the back not on the main busy road.

This time, I would like to share my recent experience in staying at Novotel Koeln City last month. I had booked two nights months before my stay in order to qualify for good rates. I didn't regret my decision this time. The hotel was nicely designed, simple but everything was functional. All the hotel staffs were responsive and apparently, they were all well trained to handle all hotel guests.

Both of me and my colleague were traveling from Cologne Hbf, by using public bus, to the hotel (I forgot the bus number) but it was the 4th stop, I believe, we had to get off from the bus, exactly the next stop after the bus stop in front of Mercure Severinshof Koeln City : The bus' journey itself took approx, 15 minutes to reach the area near the hotel. From the bus stop, just walked down towards the river (approx. two blocks away) and start looking at your right hand side for the hotel.

We both arrived quite early, around 8:30 am that morning but the female receptionist staff who was working that time was very nice, friendly and helpful. After waiting for few minutes during the check-in process, she handed over the room keys to us : We both were feeling grateful for her assistance in allowing us for early check-in so that we were able to leave all our luggage in the room before going back to the fair later that morning.

Our room was very nice; although it wasn't really big and spacious but it was extremely clean, nicely designed and well maintained. Everything worked perfectly except during the 2nd day, I guess the housekeeping forgot to refill the bath gel but the problem solved within minutes as the reception staff sent somebody to our room and handed over a full bottle of bath gel to us.

The minus point of this hotel was basically there was nothing in its surrounding vicinity but that was perfectly okay for both of us as we found what we were looking for, a safe and clean hotel accommodation during our stay in Koeln as it was quite difficult to find a nice and decent hotel during the fair as most of them increased their hotel rates during fair.

Overall, I strongly recommend this hotel for everybody who is looking for nice and reasonably priced hotel accommodation during their stay in Koeln. For me myself, I will definitely return back and stay in this hotel early next year.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the river as it has a better view

Pros:
The hotel is just 15 mins walk away from the attractions.
The rooms are quite big and very very clean (there was even a sofa in my room)
The front desk employees are very kind .
The breakfast and lunch buffet were quite wealthy, I really enjoyed the food

Cons:
The first day we had dinner in the bar part, because it was late for the buffet. Dinner menu was a bit poor but expensive
Air conditioner in the rooms were so loudy

Close walking distance to downtown

Really friendly staff, rooms are clean, enough space although we are talking about std space nothing huge or big

Breakfast options are ok, even for kids

Downside is that parking costs, charge is 15 euros per day, but to be fair, parking cost at downtown is way more expensive, just for 5 hrs I paid 16 euros!

Other downside is that walls are thin, so if your room neighbor is noisy you should request a room change

Good for weekend or weekdays, family friendly or business

Prices were from 85 to 95 euros total depending on the weekday
