Beautiful decor, very friendly efficient staff and the hotel was in a nice quiet area only 5 minutes walk from all the main attractions...would definitely recommend.

Designed to resemble a boutique hotel, with quirky designer fittings in the common areas and in the room a mirror that if you don't like the reflection you can swivel round to reveal a print of an Old Master. The hotel is practically in the station - apparently one of the busiest in Europe, so it's conveniently central, perfect for train spotting, but not exactly peaceful. The fittings are in need of upgrading, the coffee is undrinkable, and the parking is a quarter of a mile away, but for the location the price makes it reasonably good value.

Modern design, large room, free wifi Internet, great breakfast buffet. It is located reasonable close to the railway station, old town, and the dome, If you have functional limitation it can be a bit hard, since there is some steps here and there.
The whole stay was a joy for us!

This is our third visit in six years and apart from one or two different members of staff, the hotel has not changed a bit.
The rooms are still distinctively gloomy, with very little lighting. The strange looking brass framed oil painting print on the other side of the swivel mirror. I don't know what is worse, having the picture looking over you while you sleep, or turning it round and having the mirror facing you!

The room is clean and adequate for a place to lay your head. As a previous TA member said the double beds do have single duvets, but at least you cannot blame your partner for hogging the duvet (as you have your very own)!
They provide you with just one very soft pillow, so if you wish for another, don't hesitate to ask, it's no bother.

As for the location of the rooms, some are located either the side where you hear the trains and train anouncements. The express highway is constant and if you are on the ground level, you will hear people who congregate by the hotel having endless conversations that are somewhat louder than the average person
with cars, taxis, motorbikes that start up, doors opening and slamming shut.
The hotel does not have air conditioning and therefore in the warmer months which includes end of September sometimes, you will feel in need to open a window or two.

One of our collegues had a room on the forth floor and "slept like a log" apparently!
However, now you know what you are getting with this hotel, it does not put us off staying hear again.
It is so well located for the station and the centre of Koln and reasonably priced to include breakfast, you cannot go wrong.

Breakfast consists of various cereals, bread rolls, German bread, pastries, jams, cheeses, hams etc. Fresh fruit and bowls of tinned fruit with yoghurt or custard. Warmer options such as scrambled egg, bacon , sausage (frankfurters), mushroom and toast. Fresh ground coffee or Tea and fruit juice.

If you don't have time for breakfast, there is always Starbucks as you enter the train station .
For those that arrive late in the evening and are hungry for a wholesome meal. Try Maredo restaurant which is approx 3 mins from hotel heading towards station on left hand side. Good value for money. If you like steak, ask for it on the grill and then you can cook it to your requirement and stays hot. There are alternatives for non meat eaters as well as a salad cart buffet. There are 3 Maredo restaurants in Koln and are very popular.

My room was in the back part of the hotel (above the conference rooms). The room was very large and so was the bathroom. Good facilities: proper shower cubicle, large flat screen TV, air conditioning etc. The room was overlooking the main road, but with the double glazing this was no problem at all.

Breakfast was good, certainly better than the minimal offerings of inclusive breakfast I have had in other places. The staff were efficient.

Good location - 5 minutes walk to the Dom or main train station.

My only gripe is that the double bed had two single duvets.

Very close to the City , Station and restaurants. I had an adequate single room with bathroom. Drains did smell a little !
Wind was in the wrong direction and being on the front of the hotel every station announcement during the night could be clearly heard !
Sadly for the Hotel a few drunks seem to congregate outside the front of the hotel.

Staff very good and friendly!

My recent stay at the Hotel Cristall was my fifth in the past two years. As with other visits I found the hotel to a good value for the room rate offered. The location is close to the railway station and less than 10 minutes walk to the Dom and the pedestrian shopping area.

Again, the staff were pleasant and helpful and my non-smoking room was clean. The rooms are on the small side, and as others have said the decor might be considered "tacky" by some, but if you only plan on using the room as a place to lay your head at night you can't go wrong with the Hotel Cristall.

Even though the front side of the hotel faces the railway station, you really can't hear much noise if the windows to your room are closed. More noise comes from the cars traveling on the expressway right next to the hotel. The noise might be a problem during the warmer months if you have to leave your window open as there is no air conditioning.

The breakfast buffet, included with most room rates, is quite good.

As for safety, I returned to the hotel during late evening on several occasions and never encountered any problems.

Via Hotels.com I was able to secure a US$89 per night rate. No photos this time as the ones posted by other guests are quite accurate.

DIRECTIONS TO THE HOTEL

From the railway station:

Exit via the doors leading to the Dom. Walk towards the street in front of you and slightly to the right. This is Dom-Propst-Ketzer Strasse ("Street" in German). Walk to the next street on your RIGHT (about 200 yards). This is Marzellen Strasse. Turn right and walk about one long block (you will pass the Hilton Cologne on your left) where you will come across Ursula Platz and see the hotel on your left. On your right is the outskirts of the railway station.
