“Lovely artwork, excellent room. A truly different modern hotel”
Reviewed June 29, 2012

I booked at the Art'otel simply because I had a meeting in Cologne and the business rate was reasonable. Approaching the hotel from the railway station I was a bit uneasy about its position next to a major road and alongside a busy road bridge, but I needn't have worried. Stepping inside this modern hotel was quiet, beautifully decorated with original paintings by the Korean artist, and very friendly service from the front desk and later the restaurant staff. While there was no particular view from the room it was facing to the river, nicely fitted out, and had good high-speed internet access for a modest €4.50 upgrade fee from the free service the hotel offers.

Excellent as a business hotel, but I'd also recommend it to any one visiting Cologne and looking for a bright modern hotel for a short stay. Do take the time to look at Seo's art, particularly the painting in the restaurant.

Room Tip: I'd suggest going for a room away from the road bridge on the river side of the hotel to minimis...

We arrived at the hotel at 4pm only to find out that our booked rooms were not ready yet. No problem. this can happen. Returned a few hours later. Rooms were ready, but unfortunately the twin room we booked had by than been given to other guests.

We had a good nights sleep. The rooms were quiet. We could open the windows though. Heavy traffic. Get a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the river.

No idea how the breakfast was. Chaos, no free tables and no-one to bring you to your table. So it was survival of the "rudest". We opted to have breakfast somewhere else.

The good:
- nicely designed rooms, interesting use of wash basin.
- quiet rooms
- good beds
- Interesting location

The bad
- service not so good
- horrible colored glass windows make you close the blinds as soon as you enter the room
- rooms at front of hotel face very busy road
- very small parking garage
- breakfast chaos

We stayed here 3 nights in May 2012. This is a nice design hotel with pretty spacious and clean rooms, all at a very reasonable price. Staff are friendly. Located within walking distance of the old town. Free Wi-Fi works perfectly.

My husband, daughter and I stayed at this hotel last weekend whilst visiting family in Cologne. Our rooms were very modern with a fantastic-looking walk-in shower, plenty of desktop space for your things, nice balcony overlooking the Rhine, good toiletries, lovely Senseo coffee machine and even an English plug connection so no adaptor necessary. Beds and pillows really comfortable too for a change! Lovely 10 minute walk by the Rhine into the Altstadt. We didn't have breakfast this time but heard that it was really good though expensive. Great excitement too last weekend as auditions were taking place at the hotel for "The Voice of Germany"... The hotel was therefore very busy. There is a lovely sauna on the 5th floor and a nice rooftop terrace too. We highly recommend this reasonably priced hotel and will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Cologne.

Room Tip: We upgraded to a room on the Rhine side on the 5th floor for only 10 Euros extra.

We were looking forward to seeing the hotel after looking at the pictures online. When we arrived we were surprised because it was even nicer than we expected. The entrance was beautiful with modern seating areas and lovely glass lift that gives you a good view of the area at the back of the building. Staff were very welcoming and happy and gave us information regarding the surrounding area and advised us on the available transport options to use to get to a concert in the Lanxess arena. (Although we ended up walking it in around 30 mins)
When we got to our room WOW it was beautiful. It had cool pod windows, all mod cons, free internet access, a mini bar equipped with a good selection of refreshments and was VERY clean. The bed was amazing the pillows were so comfy. We had the best nights sleep we have had for ages. On the night of the concert it was pouring of rain and the reception staff provided us with an umbrella for a small deposit which was to be charged to our room if we did not return it. We did not have time to have breakfast before leaving for the airport which was a shame we would have liked to have tried the food.
If you are thinking about going it is a must just remember to pop next door to the chocolate museum for a tasty cake and hot chocolate yum yum. Oh and for a look from the roof top terrace as the surrounding views are amazing.
Fantastic hotel we will return and have already suggested to our friends that they should visit.

Room Tip: We had a art deco XL on 5th floor room, facing the Rhine River

We stayed in this hotel 4 nights during Easter. The location is good, close to shopping, restaurants and attractions. The staff is young, present and very friendly. The room was rather spacy and fresh. Bathroom lighting could have been better.
The breakfast is of a very good quality and the breakfast room is nice and calm. We really enjoyed a long breakfast every morning. During holidays and weekends the breakfast is until 12.00.
On 5th floor there is a small sauna that we enjoyed twice after jogging along the river Rhein.

We had a most wonderful stay at this hotel. We were in Cologne for an Easter break and very much enjoyed our time there. Everything from the warm welcome when we arrived to the staff at breakfast were an asset to the hotel.
The room was very well appointed with a Queen size bed and was of a good size. We particularly liked the shower!!
It was only a 10 minute walk into the Old Town with a great array of restaurants and bars.
The breakfast was not included in the room rate and is normally 18 euro. However, we were advised that as we booked through Expedia we get it for half price. Worth noting for future visits.
We shall most definitely return.

Room Tip: Request a room on the high floor. All rooms are quadruple glazed.
