“Central hotel, great breakfast”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

We visited Cologne a few weeks ago and stayed in this charming hotel. Nice and friendly employees. Room was big enough and clean. The location was very central, just a 10 minute walk from the Dom. The breakfast was really great. Lots to choose from and fresh.
I really cannot make up anything negative, besides the fact that we booked the room via a giftcard and we had to pay 20 euro a night extra for an upgraded room as the standards weren't available anymore. Honestly I'm doubting if we really got the upgraded room as it was not very big and a bit sober, we also had a quick look into another room and that one was much bigger and luxury... anyhow not really a complaint just remarkable

Thank you for reviewing us. To address your question: Even if you saw a slightly larger room - rest assured, we have given you a superior room. Well, other rooms could be slightly larger or smaller, but the equipment is the same. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us as well and send

Greetings from Cologne!

We needed to be close to Cologne main station as we were in town for just one night for a concert. This place is maybe 200 metres away from the station. From the outside judging by the facade you could be forgiven for thinking that it may not be so nice. Far from it.

Every contact we had with the staff was a pleasant experience, from check in to check out. We decided to pay €10 more and upgraded. At check in we were loaded out with maps, internet vouchers, hairdryer and all the info you might need. They are very approachable!

We were assigned to room number 14 - which seemed to be quite isolated from the rest of the rooms and later found out that it was called the 'Princess Room'. Our room had could sleep 4 in separate but conjoined rooms and predominantly pink in theme. The view was not much (backyard alleyway) but the room was refreshingly decorated and welcoming and light. We had cake in our room to welcome us. The bathroom is a little cramped but had double sinks. The shower was a little awkward to shower in, no big deal though.

As many have stated, breakfast is a big deal. There are many things to try (marinated duck breast, shrimps, cheeses) as well as traditional options: eggs, bacon, toast and cold cuts etc.

What we expected and what we got made a very pleasant stay!

Stayed in rooms 1 & 2 26/10/12. The standard of the rooms was excellent (did choose superior, so not sure about standard rooms). From the minute we walked in we all felt very welcome. All staff we met were extremely helpful. In fact, I would say this has to be the jolliest place I have stayed. Breakfast was excellent. It's the little things that make you different.

Well done Hotel Domspizen. :)

The rooms were a little tired but the helpful staff and excellent breakfast makeup for it. Service was outstanding. Minor gripe - room 15 (a suite) is close to reception and the door is paper thin so you hear every person that checks in (all through the night). Good value for money. Overall, would stay again

Thank you for your review. In fact, our hotel is not in a new building, we are an old building but with lots of charm. We are very happy you enjoyed our hospitality and our breakfast so much and we will be happy to welcome you again. Regards from "Domspitzen"!

We stayed at hotel on 8/29/2012 for 1 night. The location is very good right near the train station and the Cathedral, and most things are within walking distance in Cologne.
Parking is secure down the street 10 euro/day, wifi is free and decent. rooms are very clean,
bathroom however was minuscule.
Our room was on the second floor which in truth is the 3rd .This site of the building does not have an elevator so my husband had to drag our luggage all the way up using the stair wells that were somewhat shabby and narrow. we were advice to use the other side elevator but it was even worse since it stops on the 4th floor and regardless you have to carry you own luggage.
The other down side is it is no ac and it was a hot summer day I requested for a fan and they provided me a pedestal fan which was so noisy so I had to turn it off . We had to sleep with the room windows open ,fortunately it was a pleasant night . I
Breakfast was outstanding, a huge selection of cheeses, meats, veggies and home made jams plus freshly cooked eggs, really top notch with perfect food presentation.

Room Tip: Ask for the side with the elevator and not overlooking the front road.

My Boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel Christmas 2011, December 20th-23rd. It was in a good location right near the train station and the Cathedral, and most things are in walking distance in Cologne and we got to see all the beautiful Christmas Markets.
The hotel, yes it is small but we found it to be more cosy, the double was a two twins together but you find that in most places! Once we worked out how to turn on the radiators it was warm and lovely and good to relax in when we'd been out all day! We always felt comfortable in the hotel, going in and out and at breakfast time, which personally to me means something. I liked the decor, and they made an effort for the season; biscuits & sweets on display at reception if I recall.
The staff were simply amazing, always friendly and helpful and didn't mind when we were the last to check out on the 23rd when they were closing down for the holiday! Rooms were always clean. Breakfast service was great! We loved the good selection and also the cooked foods were delicious! We had scrambled eggs with ham most mornings and I don't think I've had any to compare since!!

All in all, we are planning to return to Cologne at Christmas in the future (& maybe another time of year!) and have already decided where we'll stay! Definitley would recommend!

Overall a very good stay. Extremely friendly and helpfully staff, great location just 5 minutes from the main train station and only 10 minutes to the main shopping center. Rooms are small but everything works including a very powerful shower, a must for me. As has been previously said everything is on the small side, so I don't recommend it for a longer stay as it can become a bit frustrating bumping into everything, especially my single room which was no more 6 paces long. Breakfast was outstanding, a huge selection of cheeses, meats, veggies and home made jams plus freshly cooked eggs, really top notch for such a small place. Good value for money considering the location and the city it is in.

Room Tip: Take a look before you pay.
