Description: Taku means the home of hospitality. This meaning is completely relevant in the Asian restaurant Taku in the Excelsior Hotel in Köln. Here you can experience palate teasers from the kitchen's different Far East cookery and high end culture. Head chef Nicolas Auersperg cooks his dishes with authenticity and creativity and takes his ideas from purist Japanese, hearty Chinese or well rounded Thai and Vietnamese cuisine. The Taku offers two solutions for business people: the Office-Box in two sizes, that you can either collect yourself, or have it brought to your work desk, or the weekly changing business lunch which can be eaten in the restaurant itself. For a stay full of enjoyment, the modest service team welcomes guests in the timeless elegance of the Taku on the cathedral square. Here you can indulge in speciality dishes taken from fine Asian cuisine, served with an appropriate sake, or a wine to accompany the meal.

“Perfect for Business”
Reviewed November 26, 2009

taku is located on an underground floor of the Excelsior Hotel Ernst.

The design is clean and sophisticated, with simple lines, dark wood tables and beige natural stone floors. As an added touch, there is a little glass-covered "stream" at the entrance with goldfish swimming in it. A glass catwalk leads into the main dining area, but be careful and watch your step, there are no handrails and lighting is on the dim side.

Food was pricey - but very good. We had sushi and sashimi for starters which were excellent, and Wagyu Beef as a main course, which was very nice. The starters weren't on the menu but after a quick check with the chef, he agreed to make a special order for us. While we waited for our starters, the kitchen made sure the wait was bearable by sending us not one but two different amuse-gueules, which were absolutely wonderful.
It is this kind of service attitude that makes all the difference.

Service is basically very good - very accommodating and friendly, but since it was a busy night they also seemed a bit nervous or even stressed at times.

All-in-all very recommended for business lunch or dinner.

“Best restaurant in town.”
Reviewed June 28, 2009

This is by far the best restaurant we ate in Cologne.
The atmosphere is excellent, a small pont with glass and fishes, a trendy Japanse garden / restaurant. Good service. And excellent food.

We ate here with friends. We had in total 4 amuses. (2 as starter, 1 spoon an 1 pre desert). I had tartar of tuna this is one of the best tuna's I've ever eating. My partner had various curries. This looked colourfull and beautiful and the tast was perfect. A friend had lobster and this was perfect too.

The maincourse was wagu beef (very tender), Langoustines and vegetables. This was excellent too. The butter was with sesam, with coriander and with saffran. We had the best dinner in Cologne ever. Thanks restaurant for the great hospitality.
