“Traditional German food”
Reviewed December 19, 2013

This is a very old restaurant in Bonn that rather recently has been nicely renovated. It features the traditional German/local cuisine and, of course an excellent "Kölsch". The quality of the food is rather high, prices moderate, and the service efficient and friendly. The restaurant is very spacious and can easily accommodate larger groups. Certainly a place to come back to.

“Proper old-fashioned German hospitality”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

Ate here with my German relatives. Been here a few times before and I'm always impressed with the woodwork, copper bar fittings and general ambience.

Of course the food is well up to good, hearty German pub food standards. Plenty of pork, mash, sauerkraut, schnitzels, bratkartoffeln etc, all well done and very delicious washed down with big glasses of Kolsch or Pils!

A genuinely friendly crew of English speaking waiters/bar staff who are happy for you just to sit there and chew the fat whilst swilling more Kolsch and Schnapps. I will always revisit as it is such a nice place, easily found and very good value.

Tip: The house (Stiefel?) Schnapps isn't as good as a standard MalteserKreuz - give it a miss! Also, as you might expect being so close to the BeethovenHaus, English is spoken and English Menus are also available.

“Friendly atmosphere and great food!”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

The prices were reasonable, the portions large and the menu varied. The staff was very attentive and personable and the food was very tasty. I had the grilled pork knuckle, sauerkraut and a potato dumpling and my friend had the liver and onions. We both enjoyed our food and would recommend this restaurant to others.

“Good German food!”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

In this unassuming pub-restaurant, our group of 6 from around the world selected from a truly German menu. Our friendly waiter helpfully suggested that all meals could be done as small portions, and that it would be no problem to have half and half plates where we weren't able to decide. What flexibility! As it was, even a small portion was plenty. Food was superb - simple, honest and tasty. Would certainly recommend!

“The ultimate German experience”
Reviewed March 15, 2012

Busy German-style restaurant located in downtown Bonn not far from the Rhein. I am a Mediterranean guy, and what I had here is possibly the most distant food you may find in Europe from the southern taste: broiled beef covered with a thick, sweet, dark red sauce and almonds, and Rheinische sauerkraut (sour red cabbage). However it was an interesting experience. Kölsch beer was refreshing as always.
