“Okay if you've got loads of spare cash”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2012

The atmosphere was charming and the waiter excellent, but at over 10 euros for a starter and between 20 and 40 euros for a main or 10 to 20 euros for a bit of pasta, we were rather shocked. As we were sat down, we stayed, having a starter as a main and a bowl of pasta. The portion sizes were frankly a joke and if you have any food allergies then there is very little, if nothing for you. I ended up having to pay 13 euros for a bowl of plain pasta with olive oil and a few tomatoes. If youve got cash to flash and a love of rich foods then this is the place for you. However if money isnt so easily available then I would recomened somewhere like the resturant/pub thats tucked away in the corner of the market place next to the council offices, we had lunch there and its was great food, massive portions, reasonable prices and the most genuinely happy waiter ive ever met.

“Italy in Germany”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2012

I dined at Oliveto while in business in the Bonn area. After less than enjoyable hotel food for a week, I was ready to get out and have a good meal. The front desk clerk recommended Oliveto, after I expressed interest in Italian.

The restaurant is located in another hotel, downstairs from the lobby. It looks down on the Rhein River, which was active with boat traffic, providing a pleasing display of lights and motion.

Service was a bit slow, apparently due to an unfavorable ratio of servers to customers. Wine service was limited; no list was offered, and the server asked what kind of wine I wanted, and its characteristics, then brought a taste to see if it was acceptable.

I ordered ravioli. After a long wait, during which other diners who arrived and ordered after me were served, my veal arrived. Ravioli...Veal... Must be my Southern accent. I offered to pay for the veal, but told the waiter I didn't want it, and that I wanted the ravioli. He apologized profusely, brought me ravioli in short order, and took the veal off my bill. The ravioli was excellent, as was my chocolate mousse dessert, accompanied by a port which was provided free of charge.

Despite the slow service and entree mixup, the food was very good, and the experience overall was enjoyable. I would go back if given the opportunity, especially during warmer weather when I could sit outside and enjoy the setting a bit more.

“Lovely terrace, friendly service, average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2011

The staff is friendly and professional, the terrace directly at the river is very beautiful. The food was alright, Italian-style, but not as in Italy. Neither the focaccia nor olive oil had much flavour. Most pasta dishes were heavily sauce based, no lighter option for a lunch. Given the small menu, it's difficult to make a balanced choice. I would like a larger choice, especially lighter dishes which are not a starter or a salad, and either a more authentic Italian cuisine, or a real move away from it into fusion or whatever. Nevertheless, an overall pleasant experience, but it's the food that does not live up to the potential of the restaurant.

Food and service were excellent. A bit on the pricy side. Unremarkable location.

“Superb food, bland ambience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2011

As noted by others, food is first-class in every respect. But a couple items on the menu were not available when we arrived at 6:30. Service was very attentive: we often had more than one waiter serving us at the same time. Dining room was very unexceptional; the view in summer over the river must be nice, but in winter it gets dark too early to appreciate it. Overall, a great dining experience!
