“Nice restaurant in a great location”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a nice restaurant with a traditional german menu. The staff was very friendly and spoke english. They were accomodating with our children and gave them a box of books, coloring pages, etc. to use while we were waiting for the food. The only minus point was there was no children's menu, but that was only a minor issue. The restaurant itself has a nice historical interior and plenty of terrace seating looking out over the market square. The food was good. Restroom cleanliness was decent, but not great.

“Great local cuisine in traditional surroundings”
Reviewed June 26, 2013 via mobile

We went here on recommendation from trip advisor and were delighted. We Dined here on two nights of our stay in Aachen and the food and atmosphere was great each time. Would certainly recommend to all. It is in the market square directly opposite the statue of Charlemagne

“Traditional and great value.”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

We visited every evening on our stay in Aachen because there was nothing to fault and the experience was so enjoyable. They have a great selection of beers in addition to the local type cuisine. Very good portions in a lovely old building atmosphere. Top place and would highly recommend. Very good value all round with polite and helpful staff. Nicely positioned on the old Markt square.

“Local gem”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

My girlfriend and I were quite late to find a restaurant to eat. And in Germany they don't do late dining in restaurants so our choice was limited. Through the tripadvisor app we found this restaurant and to our surprise it was still open.

Don't get fooled by the entrance because it will look like just a bar, and it's not! Well, not only a bar. If you walk to the back of the bar there's a door leading into the restaurant area (quite big and spacious). It's a very beautiful decor, typical old Germany and plenty of seating choice. The staff is very friendly and the menu choice is typical Germany and diverse. We took a 2-course meal and both enjoyed it. I speak basic Germany and could handle myself quite well until the ending, when the staff noticed they immediately tried to talk German-English-German with me, really great (for Germans that's exceptional)!

According to the menu card the building is the oldest restaurant in the city (nice detail).

All in all I can definitely recommend this restaurant.

Traditional wood-panelled surroundings with friendly, efficient service. Freshly prepared and well cooked food accompanied by quality wines. Menus presented in English offering an interesting choice of local cuisine.
