Don't be deceived by the exterior of this nice hotel. The family running it will make your stay pleasant and the bedrooms are all clean and nicely furnished. Breakfast was simply excellent! More than the average for the price. I'll be back!

The staff here are very nice indeed but the room was not good at all. It was the size of a decent bathroom and the bed was atrocious. They compensate by providing a great breakfast but that single room left much to be desired. No English channels on the TV except CNN. That's the case with a lot of German hotels though. Had a rough night at this place and wouldn't recommend it. Shame though really because it's well situated, within walking distance of the center of Aachen.

I stayed at the hotel Granus for 2 nights. The 1 person-bedroom is really large, very clean, comfortable and well-equiped. Herr Berrens uns the hotel with thoughtfulness and elegance, he and his wife work very hard in the morning for you to enjoy a great breakfast (even for Germany, it is much better than average) in a lovely room. The place is located 10 mn away from the centre, but very close to the Carolus Thermen. The street is a bit noisy, but the double windows are efficient. A very enjoyable place.

The hotel is very close in walking distance to the city center and to the famous City Spa "Thermalbad" which is a great plus. As a guest of the hotel you can benefit of reduced rates if you visit the Spa which is roughly less than a 10 minute walk away.
A little drawback is that the parking lot is not included into the price and you will need to pay an extra 10 EUR to keep your car in semi-protected space away from the street. However, you can circumvent this by searching for a parking which can either be found quickly or sometimes be a bit more time-consuming.
The hotel is tidy and very well looked after, so are the rooms. The breakfast room next to reception is smallish but very cosy. Breakfast is typically German but top of the top with fresh bakeries, delicious fruits, cheese, home-made jam and German sausages. Service is excellent and provided by the hotel-owner and his wife himself. They are without doubt doing all to please their guests, They keep running for you to serve you quickly, asking you if you still want more of their delicious breads and more great food and always ready to helping you out. Politeness and a high sense of diplomacy to meet the client's demands are making this couple of hotel-owners one of the great exceptions I have met during my travels in different countries.

Room Tip: just ask the hotel owners.

This is a very good family run hotel near the centre of Aachen. Very friendly, comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean double room and excellent breakfast. Highly recommended. A little noisy with the window open but you expect that in a city centre.

Entirely nice and clean (seemingly family-run) small hotel a few minutes on foot from central Aachen.

Nothing fancy, but the room was clean, the small TV had tons of channels. The breakfast was entirely fine. A fair amount of hotels in Germany offer excellent breakfasts, so this hotel is not extraordinary for Germany in that sense.

The nice thing is that the owner is friendly, and seems to care about making the hotel nice, which is a reason to like the place and which makes it different from the ordinary German clean-good-breakfast hotel. I will try to stay here for my next visit to Aachen as well.

Great base from which to explore Aachen - it's a gentle ten-minute stroll into the centre, where you'll find plenty to entertain you for a long weekend. The rooms are a little tired, TVs small and fixtures a bit old, but the standard of maintenance and cleanliness is absolutely first-class. It is immediately apparent that the owners care that their hotel is comfortable, clean and inviting.

You're on a busy road intersection that becomes significantly quieter by late evening and the windows when shut are effective at blocking out the noise. The one big negative for us though was that the rooms, even after turning off the radiators, were incredibly hot. That was quite uncomfortable and I would worry about that more in the summer.

Any small negatives are cancelled out by the wonderful owners however - they were brilliant: helpful, cheerful and professional. Then there is the breakfasts - wow! Stunningly good, high quality breads and exquisite meats. Great coffee and juice, perfect scrambled eggs and little bits of crispy and tasty bacon all served in a wonderfully homely and comfy breakfast room. Genuinely first-class.

We'd stay here again, certainly.

Room Tip: Room 13 is a large triple, ideal for three adults and a baby.
