“Worth a view”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

This is not the most beautiful Cathedral I have visited but it is definitely still worth a view.
Some of the internal and external carvings are amazing and the whole place has an atmosphere that draws you in.
I visited during the Christmas Market season so it was rather packed but in quieter periods you would be able to take a closer look at some of the side chapels and tombs within the Cathedral.

“Magnificent Mosaics”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

Check the website in advance for tour availability - only guided tours can visit the choir area to see the reliquieries or go upstairs to see Charlemagne's throne.
The Cathedral is about a twenty minute walk from the Aachen train station.
We first went in the church about 3pm and returned for a second look at 5:30pm. Definitely try to visit when there is plenty of natural light to illuminate the mosaics.

“Wow!”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

Went to Aachen with my 11 year old son on a school exchange. I thought this cathedral was beautiful (more so than the one in Koln/Cologne). Great story about its creation. Thankfully, the structure survived the war (just the windows were destroyed). Son liked it too.

“Amazing mosaic ceiling!”
Reviewed April 16, 2014 via mobile

We were brought to this cathedral by our nephew, a priest, to view the shrine to Charlemagne. The original dom, although small, had amazing mosaic tiled ceiling, truly breathtaking! The church extension houses the remains of the late king and saint. The church also has religious relics- the swaddling clothes and burial cloth of Jesus, the dress of the Virgin Mary. The solemnity of the place is not diminished by the tourists who respectfully observe silence. People who pray can do so in the original church, in front of the altar. The church is worth a visit.

“Beautiful but busy”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

The afternoon we visited this beautiful and well preserved cathedral we were very impressed by the grandure and decoration of the inside of the building. Unfortunately there was some restoration being done so it was rather noises outside.
Another good thing was for only 50 cents ere was a guide to the cathedral's main artefacts. Great value.
If we return to Aachen I would visit in the morning - very crowded and noisy in the afternoos
