you can see a lot of bleak villages and little towns in the otherwise very beautiful landscapes of Mecklenburg West Pomerania but Stralsund is an absolute marvel in the region - the historic downtown has UNESCO world heritage status and it shows ! and right in the center of this Hanseatic old town is the recently renovated Hotel Scheelehof; try to get a room in the historic (center) building preferably 4th floor or higher-beautiful views of old town. Since this building is over 500 years old the ceilings are quiet low - if you are over 6 ft. 3 you may watch your head not to bump into the spectacularly restored beams gracing the ceiling of your room. The Hotel features a spectacular dining room with excellent cuisine. Likewise, breakfast is rich and offers a large variety of regional cold cuts and fish delis- try the marinated and fried herring (Brathering) for breakfast - any hangover from last evening will vanish.
Finding the hotel can be a little bit tricky if you travel by car- however there is a parking garage next to the hotel and direct connection via a dedicated entrance into the hotel; parking fee is 6 Euro per day with in-and out privileges. Make sure to travel to the nearby island of Ruegen and see the amazing shores with the characteristic chalk cliffs.
