“Well worth a visit.”
Reviewed December 16, 2013

This place has so much going for it. Very nice decor, friendly staff, Food that is packed with amazing flavours at a reasonable price. We used it twice over our long weekend stay. Both nights we picked our meals from the a la carte menu.

“Friendly staff, awful tasteless food.”
Reviewed December 13, 2013

Having had curries in lots of different cities and countries, this has to be one of the worst curries we have ever had. The starter was average but both of our main meals were awful and tasteless. Would not go again, and would not recommend it. However the staff are lovely, friendly and helpful.

“One of the most authentic examples of Asian cuisine I've encountered”
Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

We came here on a visit to York on 19th October. Staying at the Premier Inn on the same business park, the choice of overpriced pub food at the Beefeater versus a short walk for a curry was a no brainer.

The decor and fittings were not at all shabby and the restaurant was presented well. We opted for the ubiquitous Poppadums & Chutnies to start with which is standard fayre in all Asian restaurants, but it was the abundance of main meals that were so different to the norm that made it hard to choose.

The section on the menu that grabbed me was known as 'The Connoisseur Collection' which purported to be authentic Asian dishes. They consisted of a curry dish, pilau rice, Naan & yoghurt. We both chose a dish off this menu and shared the curries which tasted a million miles away from what you come to expect from everyday, regular high street Indian food. The blend of spices gave the sauces a mildly heated, aromatic, full flavour to the content not like anything we'd tasted before. The inclusion of the yoghurt really was a clue to the authenticity of the style of food we were being offered, rather than the usual English tastebud pleasers we have all grown up with. Sure, the regular Tikka Massalas, Kormas etc were available, but these particular dishes we had chosen were a taste you won't find down your local curry house. The portions were perfect, as were the fluffiness of the rice & breads so this was by far, the best curry experience we've had to date.

I asked what region of Asia the chef was from which turned out to be Bangladesh, so maybe we'd had a taste of the sort of food Bangladeshi people actually eat?

We were offered free complimentary drinks and whilst not obliged to, we did leave a tip. This was way above the norm in terms of food style you see out of most curry houses so it gets my 5 stars.

“Shouldn't have had the buffet”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We went on Sunday. Were offered a choice of the serve yourself buffet for a tenner or the full a la carte menu. We decided to have the buffet as that would allow us to taste lots of different dishes. It got off to a bad start: the popadums were stale. Three starters: excellent little lamb samosas, spicy and tasty, barely cooked chicken pakora (bits of chicken in gram flour batter) and aloo tikki: slices of potato in the batter. Boring.

There were half a dozen curries, three veg side dishes and garlic and plain nan slices. Pilau rice was good, the nans fine. The lamb in the lamb curry was good quality but the sauce was a bit watery. Chicken Korma was fine. Unfortunately all the other dishes, chicken tikka in three guises, tasted exactly the same. The veg dishes too tasted very similar. Although I like fresh coriander it was used too abundantly dominating the taste of the curries. One, the jalfrezi, was billed as hot. Slightly spicy, medium in my book.

Good service, Cobra a reasonable £3.40 a pint. I greatly regretted choosing the buffet, wish I'd tried a proper meal. I shall go again for a la carte and will report then. In the meantime I am NOT saying don't go. I am saying DON'T have the buffet. It's simply not much cop.
