“Beatiful Church”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

Felt privileged to see this church which survived the war and it's wonderful organ playing. Gob smacked with the acoustics of the place.

“Interesting”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

Often times city tours in Europe are one church after another, and while this is not Notre Dame the Markt Kirche is fairly interesting with its brick construction and the large tryptic at the altar is impressive.

“Had a chance to visit it during Barlach exhibition”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

The church gives a gloomy impression externally but once you enter he ambient changes. Late gothic architecture with the brick as main element makes this monument unique. During my visit there was an exhibition of great expressionist master Ernst Barlach with focus on his bronze statues. I had seen this collection years ago in Istanbul; now it felt like meeting an old friend again. The exhibition will last few more weeks; so if you are at Hannover novadays make use of it. Visit Marktkirche and admire Barlach.

“Medieval balm”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

The medieval Marktkirche was badly bombed at the end of WWII but in a sense this gave the chance to restore the church to its basic original concept rather than the florid neo-Gothic it had become in the 19th century. The soaring inner columns of North German brick, the crypt, the fine bronze door, Martin Luther statue outside and Saturday evening organ concerts all offer secular visitors a chance to experience the serenity and history in this place, which Christian worshippers will find for themselves. A highlight for me was the time of Christmas Market when the surrounds are converted to a snowy and friendly place for warmth and happiness on a winter's evening.

“Beautiful church”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

From the outside the Marktkirche seems like ust another old big church; the inside, however, is amazing. The altar is must see, and the coustic is fantastic. Well worth a visit.
