“Historic information and beautiful architecture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2014

There are two main reasons why this building deserves 5 stars. First, the architecture both inside and outside is stunning. It's one of the few buildings that survived WWII, and its dome still dominates the skyline. Two, there are four models of the city just inside the main entrance. They show Hannover during medieval times, before the war, just after the war, and in present day. The cataclysmic destruction from WWII is well documented in the displays.

There is no fee to enter and see the displays. There is a small fee to ride the elevator up to the very top of the dome.

It's located near the main lake with serene green areas in between. It's also on the "red line" drawn on the sidewalks that connects the historic sites. (Due to construction the red line is not continuous, just FYI.)

“Must visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 13, 2014

The Marathon was going on when I was in this new City Hall so I didn't have a chance to go to the tower. Anyhow, the architecture is very beautiful both outside and inside the building. There are four scale-models of the city Hannover before and after the war, very impressive. Behind the city hall you can take a walk in the park with a pond and still be able to enjoy the beauty of the building.

“Great models of the city!”

Four models take you through the cities growth and history. You can take the elevator to the dome for amazing views of the city. The elevator is a glass bottom type.

“Building you cannot miss in Hannover”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

You can conveniently go to the new City Hall (Rathaus) in Hannover by following the red-line, that connects all interesting places in the centre of Hannover. At the time we were there, the City Hall has been used for the enrollment of the Hannover City Marathon, so it has been a bit chaotic. The 4 scale models in the hall are worthwhile to investigate. They show the different stages of the city (1600, 1939, 1945 and today). Besides, the building itself is impressive with beautiful marble staircases. In front of cityhall there are frequently events organized (like Jazz stages) and behind the building are nice ponds and gardens to relax.
