I don’t think you could describe Emden as pretty but it does have a certain charm so it is worth a visit. I go to the Hafenhaus quite often both for private and business dinners so this review has been owed for some time.
The Hafenhaus restaurant is situated on the inner harbor direct in the center of Emden. It was good views of the city hall, a lovely old building which also contains the local museum which is a must see for visitors to Emden.
The restaurant is quite modern but in a way that still makes it comfortable. There is both inside and outside seating, part of which is on a pontoon that floats out over the water. When it is sunny the inside eating can get a bit warm so eating outside may be a good option in these circumstances.
The service is prompt and friendly and the tables have always been nicely set. The food is wonderful and I can particularly recommend the potato soup with smoked eel, which seems to be a specialty of the region.
My last trip to the restaurant was with customers and we had a variety of main courses including a fish plate, roast pork and grilled marinated chicken on a salad. All of these were perfectly executed and everyone seemed happy. In fact I cannot remember a single instance when my dinner partners have not praised the cooking in all my visits to the restaurant.
All in all this is the best restaurant in Emden so you will need to make bookings around high days, holidays and the weekend.
