“Comfortable Stopover”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2014

Stayed one night on a stop over for a wedding.
Room was clean and spacious.
We did have eat breakfast here.
Checked out with no problems.
No noise keeping us awake.
About a 10-15 minute walk from train station.
There was a few restaurants / bars close by to get good food.
It was expensive though for what you get at €69 excl breakfast.

Wiesbaden is an expensive place, and like many places in Europe (for South Asian travellers), it can be hard to find a decent budget hotel for a night or two.

I was in Wiesbaden for a weekend and needed a place to stay, and there were very few things in a decent price range. I came across the Luisenhof (which had mixed reviews), and decided to take a chance on it and was happy that I did.

The rooms were very big, bright and clean. The beds were large and comfortable, and the room was well equipped. I was very pleased with the desk that ran the length of the wall, it was perfect for setting up a little office area on the go - there were two of us staying in a twin room, and there was ample space for both.

The service wasn't particularly great - that's not to say it was bad though. The hotel was no frills after all, and the only staff there were the ones at the front desk and the cleaners (who were very quiet and efficient).

The hotel itself is located in the corner part of a larger building - it's not impressive when you enter - there is a small, cramped, very dimly-lit front desk area, but like I said - the rooms are nice and bright (at least mine was).

Location-wise, it's just outside the very centre of Wiesbaden, and only a 10 minute walk from the main station (about an 8 Euro cab ride), which is perfect really. Having said that, Wiesbaden is quite a tiny place, so it's hard to be far from anything.

The hotel and rooms and staff are absolutely nothing to write home about, however given how bad things can be with budget hotels sometimes (and this was at the lower end of the range), this gets a rating of 4 because of how good the basics were for the price - I'm okay with having no-frills and negligible service as long as I have a clean comfortable place to stay.

Value for money.

I arranged for my family and 4 others to stay at this hotel due to its location in Wiesbaden. Everything was acceptable until we asked to pay the bill on the second to last day of a 2 week stay. That is when the trouble started. The owner stated that the credit card machine was "broken", and that the only way to pay the bill was in cash. Needless to say, none of us had enough cash on hand to pay for a 2 week stay at the hotel. When we explained this to her, she said that we should go to a nearby bank and withdraw the money from a bank account or take a cash advance on our credit cards. We told her that this was not possible, due to limits on the amount of money we could take out at any one time. She then said that we should ask friends and family to wire the money to us so we could pay the bill, and that we should stop giving her a hard time, because WE were stressing HER out! She would not accept the credit cards, and refused to send us a bill, and we had no other way of paying. At this point we left the front desk. I returned a half hour later with 2 police officers, and lo and behold, the credit card machine worked again, and we were able to pay by credit card. There are many nice hotels in Wiesbaden; save yourself the hassle, spend a couple of extra bucks, and stay at a reputable hotel instead of this one.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel!

Stayed for business, staff very nice, courteous and polite, clean and comfortable room with good shower, excellent central location. Breakfast basic but fine and free wifi occasionally a bit temperamental.

I have never in my life stayed in such an awful hotel. The lady working the reception was extremely inpatient and rude. The hotel is located on two busy streets with buses passing every couple of minutes and our room shook every time one went by. There was no air conditioning, it was very stuffy and outdated. The breakfast was terrible. We booked for 3 nights but we checked out after the first night and ate the cost. We didn't even care. We just had to get out of there.

The hotel is very well located. Noisy, you can hear everthing your neighbohoods do. The Internet simply does not work, the connection has no stability. The rooms are clean. some nights they leave the corridors really shadow at night. The price is quite good. It is a hotel just for few days. You have what you pay for. In my room there was just one single bed.

The best thing about the Luisenhof is the location. It's only a few minutes away from the shopping/pedestrianised area and there is an internet cafe just around the corner.

Other than that, you get what you pay for. The Luisenhof is inexpensive. They have three or four apartments, which means you get a large bedroom/sitting room, bathroom and kitchenette. They clearly do not expect anyone to actually use the kitchenette (which consists of two hotplates, a fridge and a sink) but hardly any cooking utensils, dishes, glasses. There was no plug for the kitchen sink, no way of cleaning anything you've used, no tea-towels other than the bath ones, and no bin for waste either.

One day I predict they'll wake up to the fact that a kitchenette apartment in central Wiesbaden is very rare, will revamp/re-equip to a decent standard, and charge double.

The older woman on reception was grim-faced and unfriendly, merely business-like. If you're lucky you'll get one of the younger ones who make an effort to welcome you and fix things like sink plugs, light bulbs, waste bins instead of just making a note and obviously hoping you'd go away and stop making a "fuss". If she doesn't like meeting her customers, why appear in public?
