Mercure Hotel Wiesbaden City
Ranked #8 of 45 Hotels in Wiesbaden
Reviewed January 28, 2014

The hotel is well situated in central Wiesbaden, a short walk from the railway station and also a short walk from the main town centre and the associated shopping and restaurants. This can prove useful if you are staying for several days, as the hotel's restaurant, which is good, has a relatively limited choice and you may want to walk into the centre for a change of restaurant.

The staff are attentive and helpful, although queues form for check-in on a Monday evening (there were a dozen people behind me after checking-in on a Monday, as there were only two people manning the desk).

The rooms appear to have been renovated recently, are well appointed and up to date. They are kept spotless and for once the lighting is bright and excellent instead of the dull lighting that you find in many hotels. There is a reasonably sized desk, but as the chair is not height adjustable, it is slightly too low to be able to sit comfortably at the desk for working.

I have rated the hotel as three stars due to the internet. The hotel has free internet, but it is of limited value, really only good for light emails and browsing text on the net. What is worse is that it cuts out after two hours because the hotel "wants to offer you the chance to upgrade to a faster speed". Surprise, surprise, this faster speed is chargeable. When will hotels realise that a quality free internet is as basic a free service as hot water, and stop gouging and profiteering from their customers?

These interruptions are incredibly annoying, as it seems to take 10 minutes before it lets you back on the free net. So if you need to work in the evening, you may find your work interrupted 2 or 3 times as the net cuts out. There is no longer an option available to have the free internet continue without break.

This is a fine hotel, but if access to the net is important to you I would find another hotel that doesn't charge for a quality internet connection.

Second time we have stayed, spent 3 nights earlier this month & have to say how friendly the staff
were, the hotel has been recently refurbished & has been done really well, really good choice for breakfast. great hotel, great value.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms have been refurbished but try and get a room at the back of the hotel.

As IHG member, i was looking to a hotel close to Frankfurt for a family weekend and friendly in budget with some children accommodation possibilities such as swimming pool, family rooms, ...
And this hotel fitted to our needs.
Friendly staff at reception and bar (enormously gentle to kids).
Family room with double beds (not really king size beds but ok) with very good pillows.
Excellent breakfast, very divers. You can look in centre city for alternatives (there are) but I recommend to try in hotel.
About parking...indeed, not really cheap and yes, you can find very close some undergrounds in neighborhood. Personal choice.
Central location for city centre and even to trainway station to take train/ice to frankfurt or highway to frankfurt

We stayed in the Crown Plaza in Wiesbaden early in the New year 2014 for one night as a stopover on our way back to Britain. Booking 3 months in advance we were happy with our deal for a family room. I really cannot fault the room or facilities of the hotel, everything was spotless, room very comfortable and staff helpful. I feel it's fair to mention though that we were shocked to find that the hotel charges 24 Euro its customers for 1 night of parking. As we arrived quite late after 8 hours on the road with 2 children we gave up on finding alternative parking and paid the charges. Also breakfast is charged at 16 Euro per person (from 5 years old) which would cost us in excess of 60 Euro. So instead we found a lovely caffe near by where all of us ate for 18 Euro. I can't help but think that Crown plaza is coming up very competitive in Booking.com search but there are additional overpriced charges that doesn't make the deal so good. A very similar hotel in the centre of Nuremberg offered free parking and breakfast was 11 Euro for adults and free for children.

Dear valued guest,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay with us.
We are glad to hear, that you appreciated staying in one of our comfortable family rooms.
On the other hand we regret your criticism regarding the parking fee and the costs for your breakfast.
Our parking fee is adapted to the current parking fees in Wiesbaden. Of course we try to offer our guests special conditions, that's why our IHG Rewards Club Members pay a reduced parking fee of EUR 18,00 per night.
Generally our breakfast is charged with EUR 15,00 for adults and children older than 12 years. 5 year old children are free.
We expressly apologize for the misunderstanding regarding the breakfast charge.
Please feel free to send your receipts to our Front Office Team, so we can refund the amount that you paid too much.
We hope we could convince you with our offer and are looking forward to welcoming you again at the Crowne Plaza Wiesbaden.

Sincerely yours

Tatjana, Guest Service Team

The best Best Western I've ever stayed in. The bathtub was almost 5 feet long, so I ended up taking a long soak most days. Very spacious room with nice high ceilings. The only complaint I had was the bed, which was much too firm for me, but that is just me. No continental breakfast or coffee. Convenient location, a couple of blocks from the train station.
Overall, I'd stay here again and recommend it to others.

The rooms are smaller and less up to date compared to some other hotels of this chain. Nevertheless, they are clean and offer a comfortable night sleep. Location is excellent in the city center. The restaurant proved very decent, both for breakfast and dinner. The free wifi on the other hand is a joke (soooooooooooo slow). To sum it up, a decent 3star business hotel.

Traveling to a foreign country can be very stressful, but this hotel felt just like a U.S. hotel. All the staff spoke excellent English, and all the signage was also dual language. The rooms and beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was great, though a bit expensive. The WiFi was free, but coverage was limited. The central location was great. Close to shopping, restaurants and the train station. Other travelers from my company preferred this over the Dorint and the Schwarzer Bock.
