“Nice place for the Christmas Markets of Rudesheim.”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

My wife and I stayed 4 nights and made it our home base as we explored the Christmas Markets in Rudesheim, Frankfurt and Heidelberg. We had a nice room in the front of the hotel. Very spacious and old, but nice. Everything was clean. The bed was comfy. Couldn't figure out how to switch the hot water on and then realised the switch was above the mirror! Otherwise all went well.

This is a gem of a hotel. We arrived in Rudesheim without a room reservation and our lunch waitress recommended this hotel. The hotel is about 5 minutes out of town, not touristy, beautiful setting that overlooks the stunning countryside . The owner of the hotel was very friendly and welcoming. she handed us two keys to go and look at both to see which we preferred. We stayed in room 209, a suite, just so charming and comfortable. The hotel is immaculate, rich in history, just perfect. Food was outstanding, varied menu, again a table with a stunning view of the country side. Staff 5 star all the way. Some of the best day day hiking around from the property. There are no negatives about this hotel. Highly recommend Hotel Jagschloss!!!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are good

We stayed one night in a three room option in a house off to the side of the main hotel. the room was cold and the building it was in reeked of mold. The hotel is pretty generic, it has a conference hotel feel and is some way short of local smaller guesthouses. Location is out of the way, and the price was quite expensive. On the plus side, the restaurant dinner I had was very good, lamb that really surprised me, and the wine was great and reasonably priced. Breakfast pretty good also, and the people there were nice enough. We needed a stay at short notice and the hotel was available, it was fine a bit bland, the basically just.....okay.

We booked the hotel on a very nice sunny weekend. We spend the morning of arrival in Rudesheim and arrived at the hotel in the afternoon at about 14:00 h.
First impression we had was all of the people sitting outside the very picturesque hotel in the beer garden enjoying the wonderful weather. Checked into our room which was clean and modern, good TV ( but no SKY news ), clean bathroom with dressing gowns. Hotel has a small swimming pool which was much appreciated on this very hot weekend. Nice touch in were the fly screens on the windows which allows you to leave them open without fear of being eaten alive whilst you sleep. No air conditioning, but we knew that before booking.
The hotel is not in walking distance to Rudesheim, you can however walk to the Gondola which takes you down to the town for 5€.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, wireless was free and excellent. Breakfast simple and good quality ( you can't expect more for 9€ each).
Good value for money for 120€ per night.
Enjoyed our stay very much.

The night before we had paid less money for a nicer room, in a better location, with a better breakfast and a nicer staff. What this hotel has going for it is it's location. It is located about 5 kilometers outside of Rudesheim which means it is away from the train lines and the hubbub of the town, but what is wrong with it is, is that it is 5 km up a steep and winding road that one doesn't fancy negotiating after any of the famous wine of the region. Therefore we ate at the hotel.....mmmm....not so wonderful. I,m not doing a separate review but very average food and expensive. Nice views from the window, but you can't taste a view.

The worst thing about the hotel was that for the hefty rates, there was no elevator to the second floor! We had to take our bags up in the elevator to the first floor, then drag them along a hall, then carry them up a considerable flight of stairs. The wifi was sketchy at best. It was intermittent and we finally resorted to doing our internet searches at breakfast in the dining room. All this for paying top dollar.

The room was divided into a small sitting area with 2 chairs and a small bedroom. The bathroom had only a shower and that was worthy of a cruise ship. If you've been on one you know what I mean. Don't drop the soap, you'll have to get out to retrieve it.

I guess I would stay in another town if I was going back to do another day Rhine cruise. St. Goar looked nice.

Room Tip: Don't take a room on the second floor. I'm sure that is where servants used to live.

Mula, who claims to be the owner, is EXTREMELY RUDE. When asking for assistance with the wireless connection, she angrily opens a closet door, turns on a computer from the stone ages for me to use, and then storms off.

BE AWARE: SHE CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD A SECOND TIME WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION!!!

The rooms smell dank, especially after the moisture of taking a shower. In addition, you have to fold the pillow and use the decorative pillow to even try to support your head. The pool and sauna were nice, though the sauna is quite small. Simple breakfast, but nice enough. The location in the Rhinegau was the nicest part.

We stayed here for 2 nights in April, my husband and six year old son. We booked a "suite" - the top priced accomodation, perhaps this is why we were a little disappointed.

The room was pretty basic, lighting rubbish, couldn't control the lights in the 2 areas separately, only 1 lamp (so no lamp in the child's sleeping area). Tiny windows with blinds on them that blocked the view, couldn't see a thing which was a shame because the setting was beautiful. Basic bathroom, basci decor, v old telly etc. Would have been happy with the room if it were cheaper but at €250 pm - expected better.

The pool area was really lovely - smart and modern and a great spa pool with jets etc. Could have been a bit warmer though.

The restaurant again was disappointing for the price. We had an incredibly rude waitress who made an error with our order then when we realised the mistake, didn't correct she just stalked away every time we tried to speak to her. She was shocking.
The food was average.

Rudesheim itself was incredibly touristy but we enjoyed the cable car, took a boat ride etc.
