“traditional coffee house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2013

we enjoyed fab iced coffee and strudel in these traditional surroundings
no more expensive than a less classy establishment and a real treat - the ice creams looked amazing
highly recommended and the waiter who served us was the double of Paul on Flog it - bet he gets tired of being told this by the coachloads of British tourists who visit here particularly over the Rhine in in Flames weekend

“Second-best eis I've had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Now, I hope you didn't skip over actually READING this review because of the title. It comes with the disclaimer that the best eis I've ever had was in San Gimigiano, Italy. (Which one would expect the Italian ice cream to be better in Italy.)

This shop is my go-to standard (the bar-setter) for comparing eis shops in Germany. Although a few have come maybe a little close, this is still by far the best eis I've eaten in Germany. (And I've eaten a lot of eis at a lot of little shops.)

Cookies flavor is my personal favorite.

“Coffee Showtime”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

After a visit to the Museum we sought a coffee, and the Eis Cafe Engel provided it. George provided the show.

Rudesheim coffee is a liqueur coffee using the local Ansbach brandy, but the cafe presents it in special handle-less cups. Sugar cubes are covered with warmed brandy, the result is set alight and stirred constantly before adding the coffee. A ladleful of cream then tops the mixture and the coffee drunk through the cream. During the process George the showman, despite rushing around in a very busy place, kept us amused and interested.

Situated on the historic Drosselgasse, the Cafe is ornate, and serves splendid strudel and gateaus to accompany your coffee.

“Coffee with the Rudescheim twist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

Delightful cafe down the lane from he museum to the waterfront. We ordered an apple strudel & a cherry one with two coffees. The proprietor was teaching a new waitress how to prepare & serve the speciality of the area. The local 'cognac' was put in the special cup then swirled deftly and lit. The black coffee was then added and topped with a large decorative 'ball' of cream slid into place from a dish. Instructions were don't stir but sip the coffee through the cream. He was a charming host, and both coffee & strudels were generous and enjoyable. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Good tmosphere.
