"They don't build them like this anymore"
The allegorical figure of Germania, the central figure of the Niederwald monument, is 10.5 meters high and weighs 32 tons.
Overall, this landmark of the region is 38 meters tall.
Commemorating the rebirth of the German Empire after the Franco-Prussian War in 1871, Germania faces across the Rhine toward its eternal enemy, France.

We took the cable car up to the top of the hill where the Niedetwald Monument is majestically standing since 1870. A crowd attraction and picturesque view for photography. Looking down is the spectacular view of River Rhein and the villages, forts and churches along the river.

The highlight of our visit to the area. Spectacular in every respect. We did the “round trip” via Rüdesheim—chairlifts, gondolas, 3km if walking and return via boat. Great visit!

What monument? :) yes, the monument was impressive, but to us it was all about the views. We took the cable car to come up here on our private tour with PMK Day Tour. Loved the views. It is a lot of history and beauty in one place. Definitely worth it.
