A friend celebrated his 60th anniversary at Breuer's Rudesheimer Schloss. The food (duck as main course) was just perfect. The service was excellent, live music and a perfect atmosphere.

If anybody tells you that you can't eat well in Germany, then they obviously haven't been to the Ruedesheimer Schloss! Fabulous food from a menu that offers local produce and local recipes from none other than the sainted Hildegard of Bingen! Try the Hessische Tapas - a German take on the famous Spanish small dishes. It's a fabulous way to try the diverse local cuisine. If you prefer your food more European, not a problem! The food in this wonderful establishment is always first class. To go with the excellent food, you can also sample the various wines of the regions including those from the Hotelier's own vineyards. As if this weren't enough, the Schloss also offers live music and vocals from a very talented band of musicians. Hang around until after 10.00 pm to hear them at their best! The best way to enjoy a meal here, of course, is to book a room in the hotel as well. Eat, drink and dance the night away and then fall into the comfort of your bed just a few steps away. Quite enchanting!

We began by getting lost! I rang the hotel and Suzanne asked me to describe what I could see, them she directed me the last 300metres. She added that if we got lost again to ring back and she would coupe and show us the way! We didn't need that as her instructions were good. We were welcomed with a glass of wine and then shown to our rooms. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable. We ate in e hotel restaurant both evenings and were happy with the regional food that they served. There was a live band, but they asked whether we prefer to be close or further away from the band, so whew we're not inconvenienced by their contribution. Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of choice.

We stayed as the title says two nights after driving up from Seefeld in Tirol.
The Schloss is halfway up an old and narrow street with parking just across from the main entrance. It is an old building with lots of character, and it was quite unusual to be handed proper keys at reception for your room and room safe instead of the modern magnetic card. At reception we were also greeted with a welcome drink which was chilled Sekt, very nice too after the long drive.
Our room and en-suite were large and spotless, the only thing that did grate a bit was the on the hour carillon bells. Now I really do like carillon bells, but when you can hear the thumping of the internal workings of the bells in your room it does take away from the overall affect.
The Schloss restaurant was excellent, but as has been mentioned before, make sure you book early, as they do cater for the passengers off the Rhine cruise ships, so much so we couldn't get booked the second night, and had to make do with another place nearby.
Overall a lovely hotel to stay for a couple of nights, but I don't think we will return to Rudesheim as the town is a bit too touristy for us.

We spent just a few days in Rudesheim on our way to and from Prague and were looking for a truly German experience for our last night before driving home. We certainly made the right choice in the Rudesheimer Schloss.

We arrived unreserved and rather late. The restaurant (inside) was pretty full, but there were seats free at one table at the entrance to the covered courtyard where a middle aged German man sat alone as we arrived. A few minutes after we sat down his wife appeared and apologised for "dusting off her school English". We apologised in English for only having a few words of German between us. Despite our language difficulties, we had a very pleasant social experience and simply wonderful food.

On arrival we ordered a bottle of (very) local Reisling from the hill behind the town. How lively, vibrant and completely unlike any Reisling I had tasted before.

The Hessisch Tapas was a great shared starter, (not so) little samples of goodies from the area including smoked Salmon, Wild Boar, Roast beef with various kinds of Pork and garnishes. Every one a delight and we had six to share served on a slate. Four of these generous servings would have been plenty for the two of us.

My partner's main was "Fried liver of veal, fresh chanterelles and mashed potatoes with truffle oil" while I chose "Fried trout - fresh from the nearby river Wisper - melted butter, almonds and potatoes" Both were sensational, exciting and generous dishes. The food arrived surprisingly quickly and hot, considering how busy the place was.

After the excess of starters and plentiful mains we had no room left for desserts, but thoroughly enjoyed every minute of out leisurely couple of hours there. The food and the wine were all excellent.

We sat far enough away from the house band to enjoy the entertainment and laugh at a crowd of well oiled Japanese tourists who swarmed to dance in front of the band later on.

Many thanks to Herr Breuer and our random table companions for a fine evening. We will certainly return another time.
