This is a very nice castle and it showes it's beauty by being build in the center of the historic town of Marburg and it is build high on a hill surrounded by the old town. The castle dates back to the 12 th century and many original artifacts are displayed besides the fantastic architecture. Another great thing they show is how the "old guard" was watching out for intruders 400 years ago and to our amaze it seems like a mini google version. They have a small wooden hut within the castle grounds and before the walls in which the show a mechanicle observery which lets you watch the activities around the castle with a 360 degree view. This is done by using one of the first lenses ever produced, amirrow and a round table which can be moved up and down in order to get focuse in the live picture. One must go there to see in order to believe. Enjoy!

while all the artifacts are from the state of Hesse, there is a connection to the Hessian soldiers, mercenaries who fought on the side of the British during the Revolutionary War in the US and who settled in America afterwards. The headless horseman of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by Washington Irving was such a soldier.

Visited this venue in Marburg in February with a local resident. It was splendid, good value for money, brilliant exhibits and a great view from the location of the rest of the medieval town of Marburg. The Marburg Pottery shop, Market squares and venues for Chistmas and Easter Markets were great walked up Hermanstrabe into the countryside lovely scenic walk on a cold winters day. The cobbled streets flurry of snow and nice warm hot chocolate and amaretto made it a place to always come back to at this time of year.

From 1998 the museum has developed little and needs to be overhauled. There is no shortage of expertise and material, so it should be easy.

You can take stairs up to the LandgrafenSchloss, but there's also the road that goes up to the top with plenty of parking by the Schloss. (I believe city bus #10 can take you up there as well). The view from the Castle is beautiful and you can see the famous Elizabethkirche on the other side of the castle. The museum was good, with some well-preserved antique furniture, toys, and religious art pieces (some dated as far as 12th Century back). The first and the last floors were closed for some reason and there's no audio guide available. The Museum could really use some information in English, therefore four out of five circles is fare rating!
