My wife and I had both been to Holbeins before, but never together. We went on a lovely summer evening for dinner. The terrace was full, so inside was relatively quiet, although they were turning people away who hadn't booked. Tables are I think too close together and it would be nice to have a bit more space and privacy. Food was excellent; contemporary international class food,, so relatively rare for Germany. I had the tuna tataki for starter, with spinach salad. This was well seasoned, very fresh and every mouthful was a joy. My wife had the prawns, which looked good but she thought was a relatively small portion with just three shelled prawns. My main, the milk fed veal was absolutely fabulous, my wife's Hereford beef was "very good". Both starters and mains though we're relatively simple dishes which we thought we could easily recreate at home. The key was the quality of the ingredients, and there is no doubt Holbeins uses wonderful raw ingredients in its food. Desserts were more complex (beyond our skills we think). My wife had the chocolate dessert and I had cherry sin. While both were still good, I enjoyed my starter and main more. Bread (walnut and white) was excellent and replenished once. I ordered a bottle of Austrian Sauvignon blanc, which went well with the starters in particular. With coffee, whole thing was around €200 including tip which I reckon was decent value given the quality of the food. Service began well with an attentive waitress but she seemed to have gone off shift by the end and it became much less attentive. I would say Holbeins is as good a restaurant as I have been to in 3 years in Frankfurt
