“Cheap hotel at expensive price”
Reviewed February 21, 2010

The best thing about the Diplomat is its location - it's in a quiet residential street yet within 10 minutes walk of the Cathedral and 2 minutes from an S-bahn station that links directly to the airport. The second best thing is the restaurant 2 doors away which is excellent and reasonably priced. The hotel breakfast is OK but the breakfast room is far too small for the number of guests. The rooms are very cramped and badly furnished to the point of some items falling apart. If this was a cheap hotel you could accept the standards as being fair for what you paid, but at 145 euros a night, it is a rip-off.

I would say it is a clean hotel and the receptionists are really helpful. However the hotel is in need of refurbshment.

I stayed here for 7 nights in October. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. My room had a huge window that opened above the tree-lined residential street. Very little traffic. The metro stop is just a block away, and believe it or not, it goes directly to the Frankfurt airport in only 5 stops, taking about 20 minutes. The Messe is about 15 minutes away by metro. The breakfast room on the ground floor was very nice, with a buffet of meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, etc., and a bowl of fresh fruit. Breakfast is included in the room price. Bring your own shampoo, moisturizer, etc.

Looks pretty worn down and in need of refurbishment from the outside, not quite so bad inside but just ok.Room an ok size and had a good sized bathroom but there was a funny smell coming from the bathroom for the duration of our stay and the radiators made a noise all night! 4 stops away from the main station but the station at the hotel is a bit threatning at night. The breakfast wasnt very good .The staff were friendly enough but when the lady told my partner she was taking his debit card for gaurentee she actually charged it for our stay.Ok to stay for one or two nights.

The service was good and the staff all spoke English. The room was very basic and the bathroom seemed old. It was generally clean but did not feel fresh or immaculate. The location is amazing however and there is a wonderful pub next door which serves cheap, delicious food. It is centrally located, very close to the Ostenstrasse station and is in a safe, quiet area. It is also only a short walk to the beautiful River Main. The amenities at the hotel are quite poor with no internet access and the breakfast room is too small to fit all the guests. It was fine when we were there as everyine could fit in, however it was a little cramped. The hotel is perfect is you want a no frills accommodation in a good location however it is not recommended for those who want a special or romantic holiday.

The location was excellent, right near the underground station and in a very quiet strasse, with a few corner store type shops near by.
If you're driving to the hotel there isn't much parking outside, and there are strict parking regulations. There is a small carpark at the back of the hotel and you can park there for 5 Euros a day if there's a space.
The hotel itself is pretty basic just B&B, suited to short stay travellers without children. We had to re-arrange our double room to try and squeeze in a travel cot for our 1 yr old. But the room was pleasant, clean and actually had opening windows for fresh air!! Rather than the air con you get in some hotels these days.
The included breakfast was continental and very nice, but the breakfast room was a bit on the small side and people were having to wait for a table if you arrived at peak time (possibly about 8-9am).
The staff were helpful and friendly and if you only have a limited knowledge of the German language (like me), their English was pretty good.

Very basic hotel but excellent position. It is placed in a nice and quiet neighborhood in a tree-lined street just a few steps away the underground station and at a walking distance from the city center. On the whole the place is very much unassuming and modest but the staff is kind and the breakfast is not bad. Ideal place for a cheap but confortable stay.
