“IKEA Hip or Prison Sterile?”

Just come out of the BahnHof three S-Bahn stations from the airport and walk a few blocks next to the McDonald's. Everything is sleek and modern and clean. You need to use your key card to get through every door and it's total civilization here after being in the Middle East for five weeks.

United Hostel was one of the greatest Hostels we slept in during our trip in europe. For a person traveling with not very high expectations, this was a dream come true. Even tough the colourchanging receptionroom was a bit tasteless, the hostle itself was great. We had to wait a bit to get to the reception, but othervise things went very smoothly. When we got to the room, we were just blown away. Good beds, quality bedsheats and good pillows. Just awesome after some dirty old hostel in Amsterdam. Bathrooms were quite weird though. This was the first time ive seen unisex showerrooms with no showerclosets for people. So dont go if you are shy!
The hostel was REALLY cheap considering the central location and the great decoration and sleeping areas, only 14€. Overall, a really nice experience

First of all- putting two doors on a dorm does NOT make it two dorms! I paid for a 6 bed dorm with en-suite, only to get a 13 bed dorm with a door on both sides- and everyone from the far side using my bathroom!

The problems begin even before you step inside United. Outside the hostel there are 3 giant flatscreen tvs playing MTV 24 hours a day for passers by. Why am I paying for this?
You walk in- there is no door BTW, just a big empty space open to anybody and as wide as the building. The ceiling everywhere is covered with multicolored disco lights- do I really need this? You walk through to the illuminated reception desk in the back of the place and wonder where the common room is. Did I just walk through it? Is the sidewalk supposed to be the common area? The only thing to sit on is some flimsy uncomfortable metal barstools. Also, they had cheesy rave music just blasting through the place at all hours of the day and night.

Breakfast was ok for the price, but good luck finding it.

I don't think the person behind this place has ever been to a hostel before.

While I appreciate what the owners are trying to accomplish with this new, hip hostel - its just not quite there yet. The beds are clean, and the place is generally immaculate because it's new. The. Common areas are not really defined or comfortable. And the only place we could get wifi was the noisy lobby. When we asked, they told us the "real" internet was being installed next week. The breakfast was nice enough, but not worth €4.50. There is a nicer bakery across the street. Additionally, some work was being done on another floor that involved water, and my spouse had water shut off while IN the shower.... And because there is no phones, I had to walk down the desk to alert them. It was frustrating, and I didn't get any resolution upon complaining at check out, because of course we had already paid.
Maybe in a few months they will have the kinks worked out, and things will be better...

Hostels need 3 things to be successful.

1. a common area for travelers to hang out
2. a kitchen
3. A cool vibe

United Hostel has none of these.

Honestly. There are a million great places to stay in Frankfort. You don't need this one.

Ended up staying here as the only option on a work trip to Frankfurt while some major trade fair was on and there were no hotels available. wouldn't normally be my first choice for business travel although stay in hostels while traveling for leisure. Good location very close to the central station. On the edge of the red light district but this isn't too offencive. Plenty of good bars and places to eat around. Bed space was small but clean and the beds were comfortable enough. friendly and helpful English speaking check in staff. Facilities as described on the web site. The only reason I have marked it down is that a bed that normally costs 19 Euro per night was being charged out at 70 Euro per night. I can understand the hotels trying to make money out of the business travelers there for the trade fare.but I don't think it is reasonable to overcharge normal travellers in this way. For what I paid for it it was no way close to value for money. At the normal price I wouldn't be able to fault it.

Room Tip: Don't go when there is a trade fair on.
