Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I recently spent 3 nights at this property. Everything was excellent, beginning with friendly and efficient check in, a lovely room (upgraded due to Royal Ambassador status), wonderful reception in the Club Lounge, great view of the river, etc.

The last night of my stay, I was having a sandwich and beer in the Daxx Bar in the lobby area and observed one or more busloads of Lufthansa passengers unexpectedly arrive at the hotel. The weather was horrible (freezing rain/snow) so flights were significantly disrupted starting that afternoon and continuing through the next day so many passengers found themselves in need of a last minute hotel. The line of people checking in snaked throughout the lobby but was cleared with all accommodated in a relatively short period of time and without apparent disruption to the rest of the hotel or guests whatsoever. Kudos to the hotel for so smoothly handling what could have been a very difficult situation.

My only negative comment relates to the need to update the televisions in the room. Hard to believe that they have yet to upgrade to flat screens but hopefully they will do so soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the River.

Dear guest
thank you very much for sharing your detailed feedback.
Your are explaining the weekend with the freezing rain where the airport was closed and hundreds of guests were stuck in Frankfurt. These are special days were all hands in the hotel help each other to accommodate all stranded passengers as best as possible.
Regarding the tv in the room, we know the issue but we can not say when we will have a update to flat screens.
We thank you for you loyalty as a Royal Ambassador and we look forward to welcome you again.

Stayed here several times during business trips. Quick efficient check in, clean rooms. Room size is on the smaller side of things but if you are lucky you'll get a room with great views of the river Main. Breakfast is one of the best ones out there. Huge selection and fresh cooking. Location of the hotel is good for ppl arriving by train or plane. Walk to city center is about 20min.

As usual, the lst of goods and bads/room for improvements to justify the rating
I was there 4nights for business and I had through the company a package deal which included Internet in the room and the Breakfast

On the plus side:
- Staff: friendly, very helpful, considerate in all areas I came across
- Gym: is large and very well equipped for a hotel, there are apples, towels and water dispenser available
- Room: large, clean, the river side from a higher floor room is particularly agreable
- Breakfast: gigantic, I believe that really anyone could find something to enjoy on this buffet, excellent
- Internet: Free of charge in the lobby
- Location: good, main station is in the neighborhood, quiet street in this busy neighborhood (many restaurants from very good to the worst & red light district)

On the down side:
- Hotel itself/rooms: Antique is probably the best description, tired going from carpet, bed itself is way too soft, bath robes (or is it the lack of fabric softener?), they have TVs from the 90's in the rooms!?(shouldnt those be in museums?), the building itself is something between a hospital and a low income family block, sad...
- Without the Internet/Breakfast deal, the most ridiculous thing is you have to pay around 20EUR a day to get internet in your room (-1 point in the rating for that ) and breakfast is kind of pricey.
- didnt bother me but why are there so many employees who look like they have nothing to do...it might explain the charges on every extra one needs
- Business men, consider to get out either earlier or later than 8:30/9am if you have to catch a cab, 'cause there is a taxi demand rush hour around that time

All in all good place to stay for me, however for the same price range, there are better hotels in the neighborhood

Room Tip: If you have to stay there, get a package with Internet & breakfast & make sure to get a room...

We stayed here at a great rate we found on the Intercontinental web site. Frankly, I would probably not have stayed here if we had not made such a good deal. The location was just okay, although if we'd been given river view rooms, we might have appreciated the location a bit more. The few blocks immediately surrounding the hotel are business and the area is bland.

The welcome at reception was warm and helpful. We were three people sharing two rooms and were very surprised to find they were unable to put us on the same floor. The hotel appeared almost empty, so that is still a mystery to me. The lobby was spacious and attractive. The elevators were quick, with no wait. The parking garage was convenient but expensive (not owned by Intercontinental.) Internet was outrageous. We went to Starbucks on Kaiser Strasse for free WiFi.

The room itself was on the 10th floor and was smaller than the Westin, which is where we usually stay in Frankfurt. As opposed to the Westin, we were able to get a standard room here with two beds. The room was comfortable. The beds were very comfortable, with feather and foam pillows, and duvets. All the amenities we needed were there. The bathroom was fine, but had only three towels. Women need two towels each- put four in every room! I do not want to have to call for towels that should be there. There were terry bathrobes and slippers, which saved the call. Women do not want strangers coming to the room, even to deliver items!

The toiletries were nice quality. Everything was clean and functioned well. The room was slightly dated, but again, everything was as it should be for function. We walked at night and found the area to be fine, mostly businesses closed for the evening. The footbridge going over the Main was a nice evening stroll. You are easy walking distance to the train station and to many restaurants, even though it looks like you are in the middle of a business district. Just a few blocks away are many places to eat. The area right around the train station is sketchy but after 14 years in Germany, we've heard of few incidents, so we felt fine in the area up until 9pm or so.

I would stay at this hotel again if I got this great rate. If not, I'd probably head back to the Westin, or the Hilton, both more convenient to the Zeil, but also more expensive. Great employees at this hotel- we really appreciated their helpfulness.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

Dear guest
thank you very much for your honest feedback on TripAdvisor. We appreciate your comment because it is valuable for us.
We are happy to hear that you got a attractive holiday rate. Regarding your room allocation even with a lot rooms the preference of adjoining room can not be given, because of several situation, different room / bed types, etc. But we will investigate an try to make requests possible. We offer for our guest free WiFi in our lobby. There is no need to go to a coffee shop around the blocks. In aspect of "green engagement" we have only a mandatory number of towels in the bath room, but we are more then happy to deliver more quantity to the room.

The staff were quite eager to help, and the concierge was very good. But the hotel itself needs serious renovations. The carpets, walls, drapes, everything, needs an entire update. The bathroom was decent in the room, but it still could use some updating..

OK so if you stay here you're going to get a good nights sleep in a clean hotel, a decent breakfast and pretty good service. To be honest the hotel does well to offer what it does with what it's got. It needs a total refurb, all the bedrooms and bathrooms whilst functional are dated. If staying for pleasure you're about 15/20 minute stroll from the shops.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room overlooking the river.

Intercontinental Hotel

- First impression from the time the taxi dropped me off was that it's a very unfriendly hotel. No one to open the main door, welcome and help with your luggage from the car and to the room after checking in.
- Check in & check out very efficient and breakfast excellent.
- Rooms, especially the bathroom quite squeezed. The location of the socket under the bed stand and the positioning of the seat next to the bed necessitates that you literally lie down on the floor in order to plug anything into it.
- TV channels on TV not programmed in the same order of the listing on top of the TV. Features in TV menu don't work e.g see my bill.
- Decor and furnishings in room are good and comfy
-Meals were excellent with sufficient variety
