My wife and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel, in a slightly upgraded room that had A/C (I wouldn't stay in the summer without it) and a service bar (that we didn't use much but was nice). The price was right and although the room was a bit small by U.S. standards, it was very comfortable for the two of us. Nice to have a great, long tub for soaking after a hard day. The staff were extremely accommodating also. Only negative was an unpleasant odor in the lobby, but once you got past that, all was fine.

Stayed 3 nights in single room, first night was in a nice room at front of hotel overlooking the main train station and traffic heavy road. Unfortunately was very noisy from the trams throughout the night. After asking nicely at half 5 in morning the front desk re-located me to a quieter room several floors up at rear of hotel and it also had AC this time. Room was clean & ok, mini-bar was free :) and I would happily use again as long as room was not at front :) General hotel location is good as easy to get to city proper, pick up tours from nearby office (run by ETS Greenline) and also access to main train station over the road.

Room Tip: Go for room not at front of hotel

We were only here for a night on our way to Amsterdam, thankfully. The Savoy is very well located, directly opposite the train station and near the River. That is it's best, and perhaps only, good quality. It falls well short of the 4 star quality it is promoted as. I'd say it was 2.5 to 3 stars.

My other half booked a cheap room online so perhaps we (let's be frank it was really just him) should have been more cynical about the advertising spiel.

The building is tired and dismal. The carpets are stained, the foyer is drab. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, which makes for a sweaty night in summer. I doubt that it has seen a dollar spent on a lick of paint or new piece of furniture since the 70s or 80s.

However the sheets and bathroom were clean.

The hotel portrays itself as a 4 star, but really it is anything but. Having said that the prices are anything but four star; however I always review on the basis of what a hotel aims to do. It is very handy for the station. The bar and reception area have a quite distinct smell of drains which is somewhat off putting. The bar staff were friendly (if more preoccupied with talking to their mates than serving). The only food available was bar snacks of pizza or derivatives thereof, which I had, and which was both fresh and tasty.

The health centre on top of the hotel was good and did have a good view.

My room was comfortable and clean. but the shower was an attachment from the bath, not a proper shower (and this in a 4 star hotel !!).

The overall feel of the place was of a 1960s hotel that was of it's time but into which very little more money has been spent. James Bond won't be staying there any time soon!

Stayed there for two nights at a special rate at the weekend. Great it's just opposite the main station and the long distance coach stand. Pool on top level was great. Bathroom could have been cleaner, carpet in the room was making funny sounds.
