I first stayed at an NH in Santiago, Chile. When I saw this hotel for only $70/night, I jumped on the opportunity.
From its friendly staff and access to all parts of Frankfurt, this NH is a great introduction to Germany’s fifth-largest city.
The hotel is located in the lovely Westend neighborhood. It’s also across from the exhibition hall making it a perfect place to stay, if you’re working there. Otherwise, Westend is a beautiful, peaceful area with restaurants and a few shops. It’s not as bustling as the Alstadt or Konstablerwache areas, but you’re not too far away. The U-bahn is less than a five-minute walk. Frankfurt Main Station is about a 10-15 minute walk.
I arrived during a long weekend so Frankfurt wasn’t busy, neither was the hotel. Madeleine checked me in right away and issued room 304.
This room has an unobstructed view of a few skyscrapers and it gets plenty of natural light. The room is furnished with tea/coffee, minibar, toiletries, TV and free WiFi. I appreciate the outlets next to the bed, but they should move the plug up for easier reach.
My only complaint about the room was the constant noise of someone moving a bin around outside. I returned early afternoon to take a nap and all I heard, every few moments, was someone rolling a bin. Of course, I’m sure people don’t stay in their rooms all day, but I ended up wearing earplugs. However, at night, it was perfectly quiet with the exception of a fire truck in the distance.
My rate didn’t include breakfast. If yours doesn’t either, there are plenty of cafes all less than 10 minutes away. I did have a drink at the bar and Oscar was really friendly.
One thing to note, the area outside the Hauptbahnhof is pretty seedy: there are plenty of homeless people and I noted a few sex clubs. Once you cross Mainzer Landstrabe, to the direction of the hotel, it’s a different world though. My point is, if you’re heading to Alstadt, I recommend taking the U-Bahn near the hotel instead of walking through that area.
All in all, a solid stay, and one I recommend.
