“Average hotel in the heart of Frankfurt”
Reviewed October 12, 2010

I stayed in Carlton hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is conveniently located just 5 minutes walk from the central train station of Frankfurt in Karlstr. It is owned by an Iranian guy and the lady at the front desks speaks English, Polish, German and Persian fluently. The Bahnhof area is known as the red light district of Frankfurt and there are many sex shops, brothel houses and Eros Kino centers all around. Hopefully Karlstr. is one block away from this mess! The hotel faces a REWE supermarket which is open from 7 am until 10 pm.

There is no lobby on the entrance, just the reception desk and a narrow hall which leads you to the lift (a very small one) and the breakfast buffet. The price is very reasonable which includes breakfast and free W-Lan access with a noteworthy speed. The rooms are small while the bedsheets, curtains and carpets are faded. The toilet and shower are spotless and clean though old. The bed and pillow are just OK. The small minibar fridge in my room was out of order and not working while the small 14" TV is no big deal to me. They have smoking rooms available on guest's request but there is no ventilation in such rooms. The breakfast is very minimal with few choices, let's call it pour.

The ladies at the front desk though are very cooperative and guide guests properly.

To sum up, this is a budget hotel so don't expect much but in parallel you are just 5 min. away from the Bahnhof, have easy access to the famous Kaiserstr. and the city center. I recommend this hotel to a solo traveller or business travellers but not at all suitable for families or couples. All in all my stay was Ok and I didn't face any problems either.

This hotel was quite borderline--it's faded, but clean; located near the station and slightly away from some of the grottiness of the area. Still, when my request to extend my stay was replied to with a condition of tripling the rate, I didn't exactly start to consider the joint a home away from home. Rooms are clean but quite spartan, breakfast spartan as well. The online rate of €45 was pretty good, and I've stayed in worse. Not date material though.

The Carlton hotel was selected by my partner and myself for a stay whilst visiting an exhibition at the Frankfurt Messe. The location was excellent, just across the road from the railway station and a 15 minute leisurely walk to the exhibition centre with an option of a tram or metro ride there if the weather was bad. The price was also attractive, we paid 70 euro/night for a twin room with breakfast included and free wifi internet.
Up till now everything sounds OK.
The problem was that when we arrived there we were informed that the lift was not working as it was undergoing renovation and we had been put on the 4th floor!! This had been planned in advance by the hotel and would continue for another few months, but the hotel did not advise us when we booked.
If the booking had been done through an agency I would have been less annoyed, but in our case the booking had been done directly with the hotel.
Fortunately my partner and I have strong legs, but carrying suitcases up to the 4th floor on arrival was not a pleasant experience. It was good execise going up and down on foot every day, but that should definitely be optional and not due to misinformation (or more correctly speaking non-information!)
Having said that, everything else about the hotel was satisfactory. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent. Wifi internet worked great in all areas of the hotel and there is also a regular PC in the lobby available for free use if you don't have a laptop.
The staff were very polite and helpful and all spoke excellent English.
I would have given a higher rating to the hotel if the lift episode had not occurred. However, I would definitely stay there again, but would make sure that I checked in advance that nothing unexpected would happen on arrival that I hadn't been told about.

My partner and I stayed at the Carlton Hotel for 1 night in May 2008. We only stayed in Frankfurt for 1 night as our plane arrived there & it was a short stop before heading to Berlin. The hotel is in a great location. It is 2 minutes walking from the main train station, so if you arrive at the airport it is easily accesible. The hotel is small, clean & quiet. Staff are very friendly & helpful, and have good English. We booked a Private Double Room for $82 AUD with breakfast included & free Internet access. Breakfast consisted of breads, eggs, ham, cheese, fruit, cereal, yogurt, coffee & juice. Our room was big with a wardrobe, desk, fan, mini-fridge, hair dryer & TV. The bathroom as well as the room were spotlessly clean. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Carlton Hotel Frankfurt is a great place to stay at a great price.

Stayed in the hotel, because got a good price.

The location of the hotel is close to the railway station, which is naturally very practical for train travellers, but the area itself is not the best Frankfurt can offer with its drug-addicts and alcoholics. The high-rise center is less than 1km away.

Everything in the hotel expect the breakfast room is quite old and not in perfect condition. The double room we stayed in was not very big.

I'd recommend this hotel even it's condition is not the best and the railway station area is not the best area.

There's free Internet PC in the hotel.

The breakfast is very good.

Price and quality ratio is very good.

We stayed at the Carlton for four nights in Feb 2007. We were quite pleased with the hotel. Smallish rooms (not a problem). Very clean and tidy. Very friendly English speaking staff at the front desk. Comfortable bed, good bathroom, good water pressure and lots of hot water. Wireless internet. Adequate breakfast provided. Fridge in room (no tea or coffee making in rooms). All in all good value and convenient location just across road from railway station. Close to Frankfurt red-light district, but not at all a problem. Would thoroughly recommend hotel to friends.

I stayed at the Carlton for two nights in early December, 2006. The price was excellent for a room in downtown Frankfurt, very convenient to the train station and not far from the downtown shopping district. The room was small, but more than adequate for my needs as a single traveler. It had a mini-fridge, which was nice, and there was a grocery store just across the street where I bought food and drinks. This is a busy section of town, so there was some street noise, but I think one would experience that in any hotel in this district. The hotel provides wireless service, which didn't seem to be working during my stay, or maybe it was just my computer. I was able to steal a signal from the hotel next door, so I never complained. They have an excellent continental breakfast included in the price (pastries, cereal, fresh fruit and vegetables, yoghurt, cold cuts, the usual German breakfast fare). The dining room was clean and the staff were very attentive to keeping the food fresh and available. The staff at the front desk were extremely polite and friendly, always greeting me with a smile and courteous small talk-- the young woman working the day shift was particularly pleasant and helpful. I booked the room through an online travel agency for 40 Euro per night, which I thought was an excellent price for this location and level of service. I would definitely stay here again.
