“Convenient Comfortable Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013

The hotel is only a few feet from the South entrance of the Frankfort train station (across the street and around the corner). The people at the front desk were very helpful and anything they didn't know they looked up on the computer. It is walking distance from most of the main sights in the "old" city. I liked the fact that they had double doors to the rooms which kept out any hall noises. My room was very quiet, high ceilinged with the bare essentials and modern bath and shower. The breakfast was ample. I spent two nights here on my way home. I didn'y expect much but was pleasantly surprised. It is a great deal for the money.

I can see the logic behind the design of the hotel. The reception area looks modern and great for the price but the room! The room was awful. The cleanliness was questionable and the walls were filthy. Everything looked grubby and cold. If the paint and furniture were maintained then the hotel would look really smart but instead it just felt like a hostel.

I have stayed at the Colour Hotel for five years now, for the Frankfurt Book Fair. The ‘normal’ price for a room (outside the main Fair dates) is very reasonable, and even during the madness of Fair days the price is still reasonable compared with other places in Frankfurt.

Good things: Great location by the Hauptbahnhof, and only 3 minutes walk to the S-Bahn to the Messe. It’s also within 15 minutes walk of the Fair Ground if it’s a nice day; Lots of restaurants close by; Very comfortable beds; Good free wi-fi in all rooms and open access computers in the lobby area; The hot water is always hot; Very helpful and friendly reception staff

What to expect: Some rooms do not have ensuite bath/shower rooms, so be happy with a communal bathroom; The rooms are quite small and have a minimal feel, but there is always a peg or two and hangers for your clothes, and anyway who needs a 50 sq. metre suite as a place to sleep; There is a small lift serving the whole hotel (5 floors) so you can wait a bit for it to arrive when the place is full; It’s on a main road intersection but the double glazing seems quite effective; The public areas could do with some new carpeting - but I recognise that I was staying at the end of the season. .

Overall, you could (and many people do) pay a lot more, but for convenience, value for money, and a change from the budget chains’ uniformity, it’s hard to beat.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the less street noise, and towards the back is quieter.

Looking at the website for this hotel it is clear that the sell themselves as a "hip" and "modern" hotel. All though the location right next to the Hauptbahnhof is great, I can not find any other good things to say about this hotel.

Considering you pay a minimum of 90 EU/night, one would expect a certain standard. I was disappointed all around. The room was terrible! I had even ordered a "premium" room! It was TINY and crammed!

Cleaning was also a disaster. First of all, I saw no signs that there had actually been any cleaning going on (visible dust and hairs. Gross!), except, okay, my bed was made when I came back. BUT also, they had thrown away my contact lens case?! Probably an honest mistake, but still. That is NOT okay!

Also, I do NOT want to hear what my neighbour is doing in his bathroom!!

I would not have been so upset with my stay if the cost per night was looking more like 60EU for a standard and 80EU for a premium room and then with breakfast included (instead of having to pay an extra 6EU!) .

The one "star" in this review goes to the front desk people. They were nice and helpful. But you can find that in the millions of other hotels around the Hauptbahnhof too, I am sure. Chose another hotel. I know I will, next time I'm in Frankfurt.

Location is good and the single room is small but the design is ok considering the hotel standard. Absolute NO-GO is when rooms are dirty. Unfortunately I have to say that the bathroom didn't look well cleaned with hairs on the toilet, in the shower and a dirty sink. Would not go there again!
Paying 400 € for a room with this size and level of cleanliness, even if during a big frankfurt fare, is absolutely not in the right price/quality ratio.

It's a nice Hotel. Located steps from the Hauptbahnhof station, very easy to find, surrounded by good food options. The historic center is no more than 10 minute walking, as well the Main river. Service excellent. Free wireless working very well.

Room Tip: Look to get back rooms

Stayed here for 4 nights as our base, our last night, we are still in Paris and must return before 12 pm for check out time unfortunately we will be at Frankfurt Hbf around 12:58 pm while on the TGV train I made a call to Christien ( not sure about the spelling of here name) she told me that I don't have to worry about our luggage and she will take care of it and when we arrived at the hotel , me and my wife still have 1 hour to go to the Center of the city... Thanks so much (Christien) for the great service you've rendered for us... I would highly recommend this hotel- very near to Frankfurt Station, just 12 mins away from the airport , very close to everything!
