“Close to central train station”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2012

I had only 1 night and chose it because of it's location to the central train station. It is directly opposite and has sign inside the station pointing to the direction to find it. This meant it took me only 5 minutes to find and walk to it. The room was clean, had free minibar, and was comfortable. It surpassed my expectations. Also an easy to walk to the city centre to do some quick sightseeing. I recommend this hotel if you want a quick stay in Frankfurt. Also the breakfast was good.

Chose this hotel based on location to train and value for money. Lived up to both of these - being straight across the road from station - great for weary travellers. It really is value for money with free minibar which included 2 water, 2 pepsi, 2 beer, 2 orange juice; and if you have breakfast included a really great buffet breakfast with a large amount of choice and all very fresh; also tea coffee and cake available in foyer at most times of day; free internet - even chocolates on the pillows!
The decor in this hotel is dated, but the furnishings such as sheets and covers are all very fresh and crisp, and it is very clean. Not somewhere where you would want to spend more than a few days, but if you only have a few days in Frankfurt a great budget choice which I would highly reccomend. Only minor issues - lift very slow, and room keys very unrealiable - but all the good stuff makes putting up with this a minor issue.

Room Tip: Apparently the lower floors have lots of street noise - however we were on 4th floor - usual city no...

Visited Franfurt for 3 nights - Thursday through to Sunday morning.
Stayed at The Hotel Excelsior, opposite Frankfurt Main line railway station. Convenient for connections to the airport running every 15 minutes, journey time about 20-30 mins on the S8/S9, costs just under 5 Euros per person. Well worth getting an all day group ticket from the machines that will allow up to 5 people to use all public transportation within the City and local surrounding areas, costs under 15 Euros for the whole group. Trams and underground easy to use, especially because your return base is the main station. Easy to catch trains to Mainz and Wiesbaden for their markets. Go to DB information centre in the main station to make sure you catch the right trains, they will print off all your connection details, etc..
Hotel good value, free WiFi, cake and refreshments in the afternoon. Excellent breakfast selection - only issue slow lifts! Eating out, l recommend Atschel, cuisine German, menus in English, food excellent. Try "Mon Cheri" in the Christams markets - delicious drink with a punch!

Room Tip: The Lower floors will allow you the option to walk down rather than wait for a lift!

This is a reasonably priced hotel and gives good service for the money. Yes the decor is a bit outdated and the lift is quite bad. But I knew that before coming as I had already read the reviews. But they have the basics right. That is clean linen every day, efficiency and good breakfast to set you up for the day. If you want more than that pay more. But to mind there's no need, this is a great location opposite the train station and right beside trams including the Apple tram which tours the city.
This feels like a business hotel where people shoot in and out for meetings etc and has no frills. But it's fine for leasure as well just don't expect a massive bathroom or anything. Fine place to stay..

Simple hotel right next to the main station, so convenient for those travelling by train, or in transit from airport/train station to a downtown location. This hotel is definitely not top notch, so for a review it's fair to look at the value for money. Pros: spacious rooms, good breakfast, free wireless, minibar included in price (!)
Cons: very small bathrooms, noisy when facing the street/station, furniture in need of make-over, slow elevators.
I paid €90 for one night, which is fair as long as you don't stay for more than one night (as I did).

Room Tip: Facing the stree/station means a noisy night!

We stayed 2 nights at the Excelsior and we very happy with our choice. We chose this hotel because of the proximity to the Frankfurt HBF, literally just across the road. The rooms were a similar size to any of the big name chains we have stayed in across Europe. The bed was very comfortable which is always an important factor for us. WiFi was included and unlike some other hotels, it just worked. A user-id and password is provided at check-in.

The staff were very helpful and provided good info on the local transport.

Free use of the mini bar was an added bonus. Breakfast was included in our rate and what an impressive breakfast it was. A huge array of hot and cold food. I think every taste was catered for in the menu. The coffee was also very good which is also important to us. Sometimes it is hard to get a good coffee when traveling in Europe.

Only negative was the lifts which were are a little bit slow, BUT all of the positives outweighed the lift issues by far. I would definitely come back to the Excelsior Frankfurt.
