“Our Cup of Tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

My husband and I love sculptures and try to visit as many museums as possible while in Europe. This museum did not disappoint. Very interesting collection with a wide range. We went there late on a Thursday night and we were literally the only visitors in the museum. It was a perfect way to start our trip.
It doesn't take very long to tour the museum (maybe an hour or so) and is in a very lovely location alongside the river. I'd definitely recommend it to friends and family.

“fine building”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

museum of sculptures in a lovely old building. roman and greek statues, then Egyptian mummies, next lots of less interesting catholic style idols. the very top floor was laid out like the building was still being lived in, make sure you don't miss this as you have to go through closed doors to the stairs, they want the door closed all the time but its still open.

“Beautiful sculptures”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

1/2 the museum was not accessible to the public, they didn't offer a reason as to why, nor was there a discount to the price but what we could see was really nice. I found the staff snooty, but for the most part just ignored them.

“Museum for sculptures of middle age”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2013

The permanent collection consists mainly of altars, altar pieces and sculptures of saints made in middle age. Some highlights are to be pointed out: sculptures of Veit Stoss, Tilman Riemenschneider and a large majolica altar by Andrea della Robbia.
The most wonderful part of visiting this museum was the Greek ancient sculptures exhibition, hosted temporarily until May 26 2013 by this museum.
A fascinating travel in time, starting with modern age, influenced by the classic period, going through the classicism from the turn of 18th to 19th century, then scratching middle age toa large display of Roman copies of Greek works. Finally the originals, unbelievably sophisticated bronze sculptures aged 2500 years.
In the cellar there was a documentary running on two large screens and also a display of the stages of ancient bronze casting technology.
A very competent guide showed our group through the exhibition. An interesting and informative audio guide (both for the permanent and the temporary exhibition, but to be payed separately) was also available.
