Description: Welcome "home" –Daheim-- at the Lorsbacher Thal The history of our exceptional tavern dates back to 1803. Since this time the “apple wine dynasty” has lived and worked here. To this day, the building is still owned by descendants of the founding family. In August of 2014, we (re)opened Lorsbacher Thal, as new tenants. In doing so, our purpose was not merely to operate an historical tavern, but rather to uncover and polish this gastronomical “rough diamond”, while retaining all of the warmth and charm of its historic setting. As one of the oldest apple wine taverns in the city, our historic rooms have seen and experienced much. (Despite legend to the contrary, we have no record that Napoleon ever dined here.) It is both our pleasure and obligation, now as guardians of the tradition of the original tavern, to lead it to a memorable, successful future. What does this mean for our guests? We would like to welcome you and take care of you - just like “at home” --Daheim. That’s why we chose this word, combined with the renowned phrase, "Lorsbacher Thal". In keeping with this ambition, our tavern has been decorated with historical family photos, art, books, magazines, games, lots of candles and cushions. We want to create a comfortable atmosphere in which you feel cozy. Our guests immediately become our friends, who are that visiting us at home; sharing a superb glass of wine and getting something delicious to eat. This is what we treasured from our own travels around the world, and the experience we offer to our guests. You can take us and our team by our word; we are all here to take care of you. And — should it not be as we have promised — let us know. Only then we can continuously develop and work on our promises. Take your time and enjoy our true, artisan cuisine, which has been refined with a contemporary twist. Everything is freshly prepared, with organic ingredients from the region! We know where our food is coming from. Antonio de Costa, our chef de cuisine, does not use any flavor enhancers, mixed spices or "prefabricated" ingredients. We always try to naturally enhance the taste of the original dish. This takes our team in the kitchen needs a little more time. But the wait is worth it! Like any restaurant of distinction and ambition, we are immensely proud of our cuisine, while we remain intensely curious about our guests reactions to their culinary experiences Daheim. Should you not be satisfied with the preparation or the taste of a dish, please let us know. We embrace your constructive criticism! This is the only way to reach our aspired and lasting quality. Thank you for visiting us and “Bon appetite” Pia and Frank Winkler and our colleagues

“Best Apfelwein restaurant in Frankfurt”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

A very cosy atmosphere, with the traditional rather dull wood panelling decoration, deer-horn lamps, earthenware jars... OK, you don´t go to this places for design ambiance or fancy dishes. Rather quick service, and they held our reservation for more than half and hour, because we couldn´t find a parking place (it´s impossible, on weekends). The best was the quality of the food: authentic, fresh broiled Grillhaxe and pork shoulder, very nice Schnitzel, homemade and really savoury Sauerkraut, coleslaw salad, potato salad... Nothing of the usual overcooked, re-heated dishes you get served in may other places. Good ambiance, tasty Apfelwein. Don´t go late, or you will not get dessert (the kitchen closes at about 10pm); anyway, it`s unlikely you´ll go hungry, because the portions are huge.

“Traditional Sachsenhausen restaurant with mediocre food.”
Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

The Haxe was big and pretty good. Most other dishes were unfortunately not that great. Bratkartoffeln seemed be of the frozen variety. Good for a jug of Apfelwein, not sure about the food.

“Good experience”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

Neat little place...tucked away from the street. Antlers on the walls, long shared tables...kind of a family run feeling....
Food was good but not extraordinary but they serve free applewine if you have the Frankfurt card/pass (there are coupons for some restaurants in the back of the book you get)
It was worth a visit....much different atmosphere than I'm used to, but worth the experience!

“Quite good traditional German food”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

If you like German cuisine, you must go there. They serve typical German food, which basically means pork and sausages, with potatoes and cabbages (Kraut) as side-dish. They also have traditional Frankfurter specialties, such as beef with green sauce and Apfelwein (an apple wine, which, however, differs from cider and, in my opinion, is not as good as beer, at least when served with "strong" dishes like pork shoulder or ribs). Price is good and servings are lavish. We went there twice and we ordered food to share, therefore I had the opportunity to taste different things. The top was defintely Grillhaxe (pork shank), but also Schauferla (pork shoulder) and Bratwurst deserve a mention. I also tried a mixed dish with various types of blood sausages and liver knoedel, which was really good. As for desserts, apfelstrudel was unusual (no raisins and maybe some liqeur) and also crepes with blueberries. What I most liked were apple crumpets.
The place is nice and the food is also good. As for the service, I think it was somewhat slow and sometimes they needed more coordination (because for example they first served something to some persons, and then waited ten minutes before completing to serve other guests at the same table; perhaps there are few waiters or cooks?). Whereas the first evening the waiter (the owner himself?) was friendly, the second time there was another person, who was less kind. However, this places is worth a visit when you stay in Frankfurt.

“Great Service”
Reviewed March 11, 2012

Our concierge recommended this restaurant. Upon entering we were the only diners. Was a little weird at first, but they treated us great. The food was outstanding and of course the service. I am sure the place is packed during the high season.
