“A good rest for backpackers”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

As a rule German hostels are comfy, clean and friendly and this is no exception.
As a young person interrailing in a group, it was nice to see staff putting on nightly events like fifa tournaments, films, crepes etc. Breakfast was of good quality and the dining benches/sofas made it a very social experience. Fast wifi, secure storage and generally good facilities.

My only problem with this hostel is the location- in the middle of the red light district. We were a group of teenage girls and found it was unpleasant leaving or entering the hostel due to the shady characters outside. You have to wait in the porch to be let in. I wouldn't recommend this hostel for lone females for this reason.

This was the last place I stayed on a trip around Europe and I had a great time. I did have to wait a little longer than I would have liked to go up to my room, which was nice but not very well lit. Decent beds with handy storage underneath. Most of my roommates were great, but it felt a bit strange being the only girl in a room of 8, with a gentleman snoring on the top bunk every night - earplugs definitely needed.
Bathrooms are pretty terrible, no doors on shower so it floods the dry area, and no good ventilation so it gets really hot in there.
There was something organised every night so it was easy to meet people. From free dinners to pub crawls, all were excellent. Shout out to Julia for being the best tour guide, drinking and karaoke buddy.

I stayed in Five Elements for a few nights before moving into my flat in Germany.
I traveled as a lone female, and although the hostel is located in the red light district - it wasn't too bad. There are a few shady characters around, but nothing overly intimidating. The hostel is a stones throw away from the main station in Frankfurt, so really convenient.
The staff were helpful, the building seemed safe with secure doors into the reception and upto the floors etc.
The rooms were slightly dingy, but otherwise adequate. I stayed in a private room with an en-suite, the bathroom was small but nicely fitted. With a nice shower but no tub (didn't bother me, but may bother others).
It's a hostel, so your room isn't going to be cleaned by a maid - that's not how hostels work. So if you're expecting someone to come along and clean up after you and change your bedding etc daily - you may want to spend more and stay in a hotel.

We stayed in the separate building, where we had our own 8 people apartment, which i believe is the superior rooms.

The place was large, and clean, with good facilities.

The shower guard (curtain) was broken, and so you could not have a shower without wetting the whole bathroom, and both the bath and sink basin had drainage problems; the water went down very slowly.

There was free WIFI throughout, however in our room, it was VERY slow, did not work properly. You was able to heat the room up well and quickly, but the heaters did make very loud strange noises at times. I found the beds ok, but the big feather pillows were very uncomfortable.

The breakfast was free, but very basic, cheese, ham, tomatoes, 3 different types of bread, cereals, and tea & coffee, that was it.

Very nice staff, fluent in English.

Room Tip: Bring your own pillow

Even though in the middle of the Red Light Zone of the City, it´s an amazing place .... Staff very helpful and friendly, extremelly clean place, the bar you have some options of drinks and have a good place for social with other guests ... And is extremely near from the Hauptbanhof ...
I´ve already been sometimes in Frankfurt, and it´s always my first choice as hostel ...

Room Tip: prefer the four bed rooms ...

The hostel has a great location, 5 minutes walking distance from the Hauptbahnhof. It definitely is in the red light district, so this may deter some people, but I didn't see it as a problem. The staff was all friendly and helpful. They have a bar manned by reception 24/7. There are free laptops for checkout and free Wi-Fi. Everything seemed very clean, the beds have a little shelf with small individual lights and there a large lockers under the beds (bring your own padlock).

My only complaint was that the showers did not seem very private. I stayed in a six person mixed dorm and there was one women's shower room for the floor. The room had a sink area with a small curtain dividing it from the shower area, then there were two showers with a divider between them and no other privacy wall. That's not really private enough for me, but the good news is that you have the ability to lock the door to the whole room.

This hostel is really very good. Well placed, clean, next to the main station, but it's in the red light district. It can be a problem for families. I just recommend it for younger people. It's 20 minutos from the airport.
