“Zeughaus, dirty and disgusting”
Reviewed October 27, 2011

We booked this hotel because all Frankfurt city hotel's were fully booked due to an international trade show. As well, Jagdschloss Kranichstein Hotel (main facility) was full so the receptionist proposed us 3 single rooms in so called "Zeughaus". First of all the "Zeughaus" is not 100 m from the hotel hall... it is more far (so we understood why receptionist offered us to take the car) and once in there... nobody welcomes guests or help guests to set up in their rooms: litterally abandoned to our destiny. Then... once in the room the biggest surprised! Rooms were dirty and most disgusting things... lots of flies laid dead!! (see photos). We told the receptionist about the situation and then we went out for dinner. Unfortunately, when we came back the rooms remained the same... no cleaning! At morning we showed to the receptions our complaints (plus photos) so we left without pay.

I stayed at this hotel at the end of business trip. Staying in the forest in the historic surroundings, with a modern room, reminded me that it is possible to live in a world in harmony with the surroundings. This place gave me a definite "sense of place" that spanned the 19th through 21st Century.

I found the room clean and very comfortable. The food was delicious both dinner and breakfast. And the ability to take a walk in the forrest...undescribable

This is a special spot. The ambiance of the location and facility, as well as the rooms, set it apart from most lodging. We were disappointed the restaurant was closed (we were there on Sunday), but did have a reasonably pleasant dinner in the adjoining biergarten that was broadcasting the World Cup.

The museum and large park are special spots to visit. The rooms were large and very well appointed, with exceptional bathroom facilities. It would not be a hotel for you if you were seeking alot of action.

The hotel tries to be posh, but does not really deliver more than the average downtown Darmstädter 4 star hotel.

Biggest advantage is the surroundings - I went out for a morning walk in the forest and spotted wild boars and in a very peaceful environment. Despite this you're only 15 minutes from Darmstadt.

Restaurant is OK, but not more, breakfast is the average (good) German, with some nice extras. While this hotel is not as fancy as its website suggests, it is still not a bad choice if you want some country side surroundings while remaining close to Darmstadt.
