A wonderful dining experience in a historic and beautiful site. Located in a building dating to 1548, the Bockshaut has been serving dinner guests since the 1790's. Here you will find a relaxed atmosphere with a gentle blend of locals and repeat visitors from around the world. A small, intimate restaurant that serves delicious local food and specializes in game meats. The venison is unbelievably delicious and I highly recommend it. I am not a big fan of German wines, but their wine list is extensive and (I am told) quite good. I prefer the beers of the region and always find the dunkle bier (dark beer) to go especially well with the house dishes. Nice enough for a special occasion and relaxed enough for unwinding after a busy day. If you are only in Darmstadt for one night, then eat here. Reservations are advised.
