It is a roman castle/fortress rebuilt in its original site where they dug out a huge part of roman history in Germany right ou of the ground. The museum is simple but superb. And there is always a workshop going on, maily on old roman day-to-day routine like making bread or battling with the spear and the shiled like a centurion (great for kids)

The grounds are excellent and well maintained. The restoration is amazing. There could have been a few more "educational" signs or ways to get information while onsite. There is a gift shop with books to take home. We brought a jogging stroller to explore some of the surrounding trails. In the park we realized a baby carrier would have been a better choice as there are lots of steps and stairs if you want to see it all. Our stroller did not fit through most doors and I'd expect a wheel chair might have similar troubles.

This roman castle is a result of an excavation and maintenance that shows the frontiers in germany. A really nice try to show how romans stopped the germanic tribes.

If you are in the Frankfurt area, don't miss this great side trip. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Need I say more? You will need a good three hours to tour the site; however, there are plenty of trails surrounding the property to stroll around on a sunny day. There is basically one huge restaurant right outside the property that seemed packed with tourist esp. from busses. There is a cafe type restaurant inside the grounds. I can see during busy times parking could be an issue. The entrace fee of 5 euro seemed reasonable and they have a rate for students and kids under 17 are free. The large bathrooms were a surprise and very clean. Most explanations were in German with a few in English thrown in here and there. Again, very well worth a visit.
