Our third day in Hamburg, we were looking to get away from the crowds at the Triathlon. This was right near the Rathaus, on a canal, very nice. We ordered a couple of beers and were intrigued by the menu item called "Tapas Plate." What we thought would be a nice small sampler was more than enough for the 2 of us for a full meal. It was hearty and delicious. The waiter was a little brusk when we told him we were ordering just one for the two of us. He said usually people order one per person. Take a look at the picture of German Tapas and you decide. No deserts enticed us and my wife really wanted to go back to Mio for desert, so off we went.

As we stayed at the Sofitel the Concièrge recommended us this great Restaurant. We had a fantastic "Schweinebraten" and their House-Beer. It was really good and high quality. The service was also very nice and friendly.

Joh Albrecht's is right on Adolphsbrucke, just round the corner from the main Rathaus and 2 minutes from the Sofitel, where we were staying. The place was lit up at night and looked very welcoming, beside the canal.
The inside is traditional German pub-style with plenty of wood and rustic charm.
We came here because it was recommended in the German Beer Guide we were using.
We weren't disappointed.
There was a good choice of very tasty beers including a few different Weiss biers - which really are worth a try. There was plenty on the menu foodwise - all at reasonable prices for a city centre. Our meals were served pretty quickly, considering how busy the pub seemed to be. They were piping hot and good quality and we'd go there again.
As you'd expect, there were plenty of meat and sausage dishes - but also vegetarian and lighter meals, including salads.
Staff were friendly and there was a nice ambience.
It's definitely worth calling in if you're in the city centre. We went on a Thursday evening - but you might need to book if going at a peak time, judging by its popularity.
They advertise a Sunday Brunch too - which we would have liked to have tried - maybe next time!
