“Food, ambience and service of the highest quality”
Reviewed September 16, 2010

A restaurant highly deserving of its reputation and its Michelin Star! The food is imaginative, tasted outstanding, and was served in an unpretentious, relaxed atmosphere which you sometimes miss at this end of the price scale. Mixed, modern, Mediterranean cuisine with local and touches of oriental/Turkish influences.

The view over the Elbe is fabulous, especially after dark, and we were lucky enough to have a table by the window even though we'd had to rearrange the booking at fairly short notice. And the famous Vierlaender Duck is really as good as a few other reviewers have mentioned!!

Well worth it for a special evening!

“One Michelin Star well deserved!”
Reviewed May 4, 2010

The food and service were outstanding and the advice from the sommelier was perfect for our tasting menu. The restaurant offers a fantastic view of the Elbe all make an evening in this modern establishment a memorable experience. Le Canard is not only popular with local gourmets; it has also earned a reputation which extends well beyond city limits. The food was imaginative and perfectly prepared.

“Pacing was a flaw”
Reviewed February 14, 2010

We ate at the original Canard about 5 years ago; it was a culinary bright spot on the trip, marred somewhat by smoking (patrons and the chef, who came out and smoked a cigar with some friends!) and very erratic pacing of courses on the tasting menu.
On a return trip this February, we decided to have our one discretionary meal at the Canard Nouvelle. The setting is wonderful, a spectacular view of the river and port. There had been an unusual amount of snow, which made the walkway and the steel rampway to the entrance somewhat adventuresome. The dining room is lovely.
The food was very good, bordering on excellent. Wine selection is very good. Service was attentive. However, I have rated food and service a notch lower because of another pacing problem, which discouraged us from ordering dessert, cheese, or coffee. After 2.5 hours for 2 courses (or 3, see below) we were ready to go!

We ordered the special duck for two, which is served two different ways. In practice, this is served in 2 courses: they present the duck (70 minutes to prepare, we ordered it before anything else!) at the table, carve the breast and serve it. Then the rest is whisked back to the kitchen, the legs to be presented a LONG LONG time later with a different sauce. The long pause made us lose momentum: we were tired of eating, the wait seemed overlong. It's just not clear why we needed to wait 30 minutes between the duck courses, given the duck was already cooked and as it turns out, the second presentation did not involve much duck manipulation, just vegetables and sauce.

So we decided to skip any more food (not hungry anyway) and left.
Overall, it's worth trying; the chef is excellent; the fact that the pacing problem occurred in both instantiations makes us wonder if it's an artifact of the kitchen itself rather than the chef.

I'd recommend it once, but next trip we will try another place.

Our meal--appetizers, duck, wine--came to 279 euros.

I have been at the original "Le Canard" MANY years ago. It was great!
"Le Canard nouveaux" has a Michelin Star as well. The Cuisine is a well based fusion of mediteranian and french.
We considered one dish far too extremely seasoned. Unfortunatly my partners selections from the cheese car were served while my iced and hot desert was waiting to equalize temperatures. Overall the food was good. It is pricy and I was a little disappointed with parts of the evening.

Just "okay". Formerly hyped, now "revived" by Ali Güngörmüs, this place offers a nice setting overlooking the Hamburg harbor area.

The ingredients were not as good as expected from a starred restaurant. With the cheese plate they even offer a convenience sauce, which I complained about. Also, they serve far too much (artificially flavored) truffle oil with the dishes.

The soups are very good. But you don't just want to have a soup in this place, right?
