The hotel was strategically located near the fishmarket, Reeperbahn and the harbour.
Rooms were clean and tidy.
20UP skybar has amazing view (day/ night), it gets crowded on he weekends.
On the whole great place to stay while in Hamburg

Cool and contemporary, the Empire Riverside is a corporate haunt of mine in Hamburg, and its charms range from the fabulous (20up, Waterkant, David’s sushi bar) to the frustrating (no WiFi, no kettle, flooded bathroom every morning from walk-in shower). The décor is sparse – it’s comfortable rather than comforting, and it lacks the luxuries you’d expect from a 4 star hotel.

Great bars and restaurants – David’s bar on the ground floor is a good meeting place and the sushi is really delicious. Breakfast is excellent and dinner is spectacular with some really friendly, attentive waiting staff, but the dinner service was exceptionally slow on our last night because there were two large tables getting all the attention – a shame.

Worth a visit for the bars and restaurants – priority is given to hotel guests – but watch out for the surly bouncer on the door at 20up (don’t manhandle female guests, you jobsworth bully).

I'm obviously too fussy but I do expect wifi to be available in my room if I choose to pay but it should be free these days rather than being given a cable at reception and told there is no wifi, especially at these prices. Breakfast was far too expensive with no difference between what you chose to eat.....€20 for 2 slices of toast with scrambled egg and orange juice is a joke but I simply don't want a full on breakfast. The room was a decent size, lots of glass but still warm and the room service though ordered late at night (10pm) was quick but v expensive ( €10 simply for a tray charge which is more than central London). Disappointed to find the tray still outside my door in the morning which doesn't say much for management follow up or service. Apparently well located but not for me.

Overall I wouldn't rush back and would try to find somewhere else to stay.

Room Tip: Nothing special lower down apart from giving the local offices a fright on opening the curtains, go...

The hotel is located next to the "landungsbrücken" There is famous place of the lion king musical.
This hotel offers a great view across the harbour. On the top of the hotel you´ll find one of the most popular bars in hamburg.
The workers in the hotel are allways friendly and helpful. The shopping district (Mönckebergstraße) is only 5 minutes away.
If you want to stay in a nice, trendy location -> book this hotel!!

The Empire Riverside is a wonderful and unique hotel located right at the river Elbe and provides an amazing view over the City or the harbour.
It’s just great – we go there frequently it possible. You don’t have to take a room in the 15th floor to enjoy the view. Even 8+ floor offers a stunning view

Room Tip: Ask for harbour view and floor 10+

Not sure why but price hike in Hamburg this week meant my room was €220...gulp (work paying but that's not the point) WITHOUT breakfast. This time was only on the 7th floor with view of some fairly unatttractive rooftops (that will be the "city view"). Could see the river if I pressed nose against window and crossed my eyes. Disappointment!

Bathroom best part of the room. Lovely fluffy towels. Bath and shower. Of the two beds one had creaky frame and awful saggy mattress. Other bed was perfect. And yes the €5 bottle of water irritates the hell out of you when you are paying €220 a night.

The lack of wifi in rooms is odd but you can easily get cable from reception though then pinned to the spot.

Ate in the restaurant. Lovely well presented imaginative food but pricey... Had drink in 20th floor bar. Great views, most of window tables are reserved, v expensive!

Room Tip: Not city view! Higher the better!

I stayed at the Empire Riverside Hotel last week for one night during a brief business visit to Hamburg.

The hotel is located in a very convenient location, next door to the, er...interesting, red light district and within walking distance (about 20 minutes) from Hamburg's centre and the HafenCity.

The lobby is clean and modern and check-in was quick and easy. My room was simple, clean and contemporary with a nice view over Hamburg's huge docks. Bed was very comfy. No iron and ironing board in the room (minimalist would be a fair description) but reception brought them up to me within about 15 minutes of my request.

No wifi in the rooms which is very surprising for what seems to be a business-driven hotel and really lets the place down a bit.

Staff were friendly and helpful in giving me walking directions to the city centre.

My highlight of the hotel was the bar on the 20th floor, where some business associates and I relaxed with a couple of cocktails at the end of the evening. The view over the docks/city is spectacular and they have a vast and interesting cocktail menu. The bar was bustling but we managed to get served right away for each round and the drinks were very good.

I can't comment on the value of the hotel as I believe all Hamburg's hotel prices were inflated when I travelled due to a trade show in the city.

All in all I liked this hotel but I think the lack of wifi in the rooms leaves the place at a real disadvantage, particularly as it's not a cheap place to stay.
