Wonderful experience on the 2-hour harbour cruise that takes you way out to the cruise liners and container barges. Indeed a busy port with lots to view! Pity in winter there is no English speaking guide to provide interesting stories of the harbour's characteristics.

Hamburg is one of the most exciting maritime cities in the world, and all the port activity is so close because of the walkways along the Elbe where one can see the container and cruise ships on the move, look over at Blohm+Voss Shipyard and then board one of the many ferries and excursion boats to explore the river and canals. There are museum ships to board and lots of eateries when its time to sitdown, rest and observe.

From Landungsbruck, pier 3, I took ferry number 62 to Finkenwerder, about 25 min ride. i had a great lunch at Finkenwerder landungsbruecke benittstr.
Another time, I took the same ferry and got off at iAltona ( Fischmarkt and walked 5 minutes to one of the best seafood place Rive.
There is much to see here, the harbour with the different barges and boats cruising up and down the river. One can see Paul Allen's mega yacht under repair in the shipyard just across.
It's a must visit.

And your transit ticket allows free rides on ferries. You can basically spend at least a half day in this area. Rain or sun, a great way to see Hamburg

We took a couple of evening strolls here. It was lovely to watch all types of craft on the river and the dockyard on the opposite bank and mechanical cranes everywhere. There are plenty of restaurants but most seemed to be closed. I was expecting to feel some movement.
We were lucky to see an amazing sunset.
