This building is magnificent, constructed by the same person, which is in itself a unique accomplishment. Renovated for its anniversary, the Hamburg Rathaus is well worth taking time for a tour. There are stairs involved, it is a semi strenuous undertaking. Check the opening times for viewing and make sure you have a tour in English. Once you are finished, you can
head over to the Gaensemarkt (Goose Market place) and do a little window shopping in the Gaenseviertel passage. Stop in for a bite to eat at one of the many attractive eateries or head over to Daniel Wischer's Fisch kitchen, for a typical downtown Hamburg restaurant. Or, if your time is limited, go get a Bratwurst at one of the stands along the Moenckebergstrasse. You won't go wrong. Hamburg's downtown is a very interesting setting with the InnenAlster lake for your enjoyment.
