A converted old school, what could appeal to two teachers more? We arrived early and were met by the most helpful girl called Anje at reception. She answered all our questions with politeness and friendliness. She is a huge asset to the establishment. She welcomed us back when we returned and also asked whether we had a restful sleep the next morning. If she could not answer a question she went out of her way to find out.

What a fabulous conversion, tastefully done, wide corridors and great rooms. There is space, wardrobes and benches for bags. All windows open so there is fresh air aplenty. The bathroom is delightful, Villeroy and Bosch shower with recessed lighting and a towel rail within the shower recess.

The breakfast was superb, the assortment and presentation ( stewed berries!!) was divine. This room also was light and airy.

Taxi prices to the city centre varied greatly so check with reception first. Local services are good, there is a laundromat nearby and plenty of hairdressers and markets within a 15 minute walk.
Please ignore the swimming pool and fitness rating. They won't go way and they don't have these services!!!!

Room Tip: Level 5 was great.

This wonderfully interesting property has been created from a redundant primary school building. probably dating back to the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

The staff upon our arrival, and throughout our stay were polite, courteous, and always helpful.

Great use has been made of the high ceilings and tall windows, and there is a wealth of exposed red brick. Fantastin black and white photographs of Hamburg adorn the walls of many of the public areas.

The guest rooms are a pleasure, with good bedroom furniture, adequate hanging and shelving space and large comfortable platform beds.

The bathrooms are fitted with high quality sanitaryware and excellent showers, and everything is maintained to a very high standard.

The whole place is spotless, and the decor throughout is nicely subdued. There is a very pleasant bar for guests, and the breakfast is better than many we have experienced in far more expensive five star extablishments, offering cooked items, fruit, cold meats, cheeses, a good selection of fine cheeses, fruit juices, limitless coffees of all types and many teas, yogurts and so much more. A steal at the 5 euros charged. We paid around £80 a night for our lovely room.

The hotel is located just five minutes walk from an underground staion, so whilst being situated in an inner city suburb, central hamburg is just a ten minutes ride away.

I can imagine no reason why we would ever stay anywhere alse when visiting this fantastic city.

Room Tip: Upper floors may be quieter in the ealy mornings, if you are a late riser.

Located in a quiet residential area, the hotel is perfect for a romantic city getaway. Excellent breakfast, very friendly staff and stylish design. Good train connection to the city centre and grocery store next door are a bonus. The thick curtains are handy for those who want to sleep in late :)
Very pleasant experience indeed!

You may wonder how good a hotel you can get for 100 Euros a night in the second largest city in Germany. When you stay at the Volksschule, you realise your money goes a long way.

The Volksschule is a wonderful hotel set in a former school, a beautiful red brick building with high ceilings and spacious modern rooms with plenty of window space that create a bright airy environment that makes it hard to leave. The hotel would appear to be out in the sticks, but there are a couple of train stations near by and taxis are reasonable enough to travel around town.

The breakfast buffet was filled with high quality food, with the only criticism being the struggle the staff had in refilling the area given the high quantity of guests at the hotel. Parking was also available and free - another bonus.

All in all, a great hotel and one we would readily stay at again.

Some big plusses for this hotel: spacious, spotless rooms, very reasonable priced, beautiful building. The major downside is the location: you're a couple of kilometers away from anything in a bland suburb. There is the Ubahn but its always a bit of a trip before you get somewhere worthwhile. Tips: if you come by car, bring your bikes. you could have breakfast in the hotel but also at the little bakery next to the lidl across the street; we liked the local experience.

This hotel is in a heritage listed former primary school. The century-old brick building is stylish and has been renovated to a very high standard. The hotel opened in late 2013. Rooms are very spacious, modern and functional. Staff are formal but friendly.

The buffet breakfast is great and you can eat between 7 and 11 am.

Location is the only downside, there is nothing to do or see close to the hotel, but a the U Bahn stop Rauhes Haus is nearby and easy to get to.

Room Tip: Get a room on the third floor.
