First of all, Chezfou is situated at an odd location, nestled between business parks and railroad tracks in the borough Altona. So nothing that you could walk to from a shopping trip at Jungfernstieg or from harbour sightseeing tour. But if you plan ahead, it's worth the metro trip.
The room is split into a casual winebar section where you can sit on long bartables and a more formal tablecloth restaurant section. I think food and wine selection is the same in both sections. In the summer the outside area is also open. We sat in the restaurant section. The long wall is covered by a mirror that is slightly tilted, therefore the person who sits facing the wall can view the room without turning the head which is very nice. We had a three-course menu: red mullet on mediterranean vegetables, roasted beef with salad hearts and chocolate souffle. All courses were cooked to perfection. Wine selection is very thought through. Large selection of wine by the glass (around 25) priced at around 4 Euro per 0.1 liter. Emphasis is given to smaller vineyards from Germany and France, including natural wines. Service acts professional.
I can only recommend Chezfou and I will definitely return there when in Hamburg next time. Open for lunch and dinner Tue to Sat.
