We booked a 3 night stay with breakfast and we are waiting for our flight back to the UK. The staff were exceptional and couldn't be more helpful and spoke excellent English too. Our room was Immaculate and the beds extremely comfortable and completely sound proofed. The shower was the best I have ever had as though Niagera falls was opened for our private use. We had read that the breakfast was dissapointing, I can assure you the reviews were wrong! The breakfast was superb with so much food to choose from it left us full for the entire day, choices included a cooked breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausages and a mixed vegetable fry up, cheeses, cold meats, fish, brwsd, muesli, fruit and even sparkling wine. The hotel is located at the start of the Reeperbahn, the red light area, but it's extremely safe and we didn't encounter any surprises. You can get the S1 train to the Reeper bahn station and then walk about 5 minutes to the hotel or a combination of the S bahn and U bahn to get to the ST Pauli station and walk about 300 m to the hotel, the cost is the same €2.95 which can be selected at the ticket machine at the lower left of the purchase screen as it is a fixed price one way journey. At the moment Hamburg is full of Christmas markets and one is located about 300 from the hotel. I can confidently recommended this hotel it is fantastic.

I stayed here on a business trip in October for 3 days. It is an excellent hotel with brand new well appointed rooms. The value for money is unreal and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
I have no complaints at all about this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

TIP - You can add breakfast for 15 euros a day upon check-in. Do it. Its an excellent breakfast with lots of hot and cold selections (even Prosecco) and not your usual European Hotel array of uninspiring pastries.

Great hotel for the money.

So I was a little concerned about my prepaid 3-night stay after reading some accounts. My 3-night package included breakfast, a 1-day Hamburg pass and 1 bottle of water. Room was spacious and clean. Many outlets to plug in your many electronics. Pain in the neck to always have to log back on the internet. Can't they make it easier...Breakfast buffet had many choices. Front desk assisted us in so many different ways from finding out the nearest laudromat to reserving tickets for a show. Granted being at the foot of the red-light district may not be eveyone's cup of tea, hotel was close to U and S train stations. We would stay at the hotel again.

Booked and prepaid for two rooms through Expedia which guarantees you a late check in/ arrival. After a 12 hour drive from the uk arrived at 2330 to be told the hotel was now overbooked. No more rooms available! Gunter [--], manager on duty, allegedly, at home!

Dear Glynn,

Thank you very much for staying at the ARCOTEL Onyx Hamburg and for taking the time to write us a note on TripAdvisor. Especially due to comments from our guests we are able to continually improve our high level of quality and service.

We regret that you were not completely satisfied with your stay.

The day you did arrive we had a little problem with our booking system and we were overbooked. On arrival we offered you and your colleague to share a room, because there was just one room left for both of you.

We tried to better the situation by giving you and your colleague the junior suite and invited you to our breakfast buffet.

You did prepay the two rooms, but on departure we told you, that we booked one room back on your credit card.

We are really sorry for this situation and we will promise you that this is not the ARCOTEL standard.

We would like to thank you again for staying with us and hope you will give us the opportunity to show you our high standards and quality at ARCOTEL Onyx in the future.

Kind regards

If I had to pick the best hotel service in my entire trip, it would have to be the one here. Great service - the front desk staff are sweet, warm and incredibly helpful.
They have free standard wifi which is good enough considering how much the other hotels are charging.
Great location - at the beginning of the red light district so it's kinda interesting but slightly further away such that it's not dinghy.
Very modern rooms and amenities compared to the other hotels I've stayed across Germany so I'm a happy camper. Favorite hotel in Germany so far.

I Stayed at this hotel recently when visiting Hamburg with 3 friends and was very impressed. The hotel is a 25 euro taxi ride from the airport and is situated right at the start of the Reeperbahn. For us the location was excellent and as the hotel is at the start of the Reeperbahn you are able to escape the noise and goings on with ease should you wish. The staff were friendly and gave us some excellent tips as to which bars to try. The lay out of the hotel was superb and we all enjoyed out stay. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Hamburg. The only thing that I was slightly disappointed with was the quality of the towels provided. The bath towels were very small and thin and went against everything provided. Overall this was an excellent hotel and we thought that the rates were also very good.

That was going through my mind as the taxi pulled up to the front of the hotel coming from the train station. I could not recall why I had made reservations at this place, so far from the center of things and in a very uninteresting and perhaps sordid area. Wow, was I wrong. The hotel is not located near the center of H. and some distance from the tourist area but, as I found out, the location turned out to be great, at least for us, because it was not near the tourist area and it was right at the top of the Reeperbahn.

First, the hotel is very modern with black appliques of some sort on the windows that from the outside give a sleek and distinctive look. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable. Our room had a walk in shower with a glass door, and a separate WC. We were high enough so that the noise was not a bother although given the construction I don't think it would be a problem in any room. Also, the area is quiet, even at this end of the Reeperbahn.

We were met by a very friendly and gracious and helpful staff and this was the story all the time we were there. They were always very helpful and did not seem to mind my usual many questions about this and that. I would characterize this as a business hotel or a special destination hotel as opposed to a tourist hotel, but now I would advocate it as the latter if you are the type that likes to get away.

The good stuff: first, you are about 50 yards away from the underground that takes you with in block of the Rathaus and then continues on to the train station, so getting there and leaving by train are quite easy.
Second, you are within easy walking distance to the Landungsbruken, interesting because that is where a lot of shipping takes place, the location of the fish market and the site of a great little restaurant, that blew our minds, called River Kasemattin. ( The food, mainly fish, was just delicious. The place is very casual and not too expensive). Third, you are right at the top of the Reeperbahn, which is a major tourist attraction. It is a very interesting and thoroughly energetic place. A center strip in the street has a stage and performances are held there, and, of course the south side (the good side) is lined with bars and cafes populated by all kinds and ages. There are two live theatres, one showing broadway type and on showing local talent and productions. ( It sells out quickly). Of course, a few block down is the erotic element. Young girls line the side streets but are no bother to anyone but the single male. (There is a police station across the street where they line up). I did not venture further down to where it gets really thick but , taking reasonable precaution, I did not feel threatened or in any danger.
Fourth, you are very close to a metro station and can get into the city center and back in just minutes and also get to the train station.

The only drawback was breakfast . They wanted 20 Euros and it was not a very large buffet. We went into the city center and had a pastry and coffee and on of the ubiquitous Starbucks. But, when we were walking to Peterstrasse I noticed an outdoor café on Holstenwall called "Fee" ( believe that was it) maybe 20 minutes from the hotel that looked like a good possibility for a breakfast on the patio.

The hotel is not cheap but I felt that we got our moneys worth in terms of location, staff and hotel rooms and furhishings.
