This museum is pleasant and interesting. It shows the history of shipping along with immigration to Hamburg and emigration to America. There are ship models, and model rooms. There were some temporary exhibits on Hamburger Jewry and historic clothing.

If you are not as interested in history, you can fly thru the museum in an hour and pick up a few highlights. Lots of models and dioramas to entertain kids.

It is a nice historical building with a glass covered central courtyard.
Has good architecture. Like many Hamburg buildings, it is from red brick.

It is very well laid out museum and gives the history in a chronology.
Some important historical events etc have been recreated with miniature models etc. which helps to understand and visualize those times.

It is also on the walking distance to many other historical and architectural buildings in Hamburg.
This photo attached here is from my 1st visit.

We spent a very enjoyable 2 hours in this museum (3 young females) and learned a lot about Hamburg's history. The rooms are very well laid out with lots of interesting things to look at, some really wow things! This museum does not miss any time period out but floors can be a little confusing so it would be easy to miss something out. The cafe has great hot chocolate and pancakes - perfect for stopping off when it's raining! There is a 11 museum kombi-ticket but the lady behind the counter did not recommend it, we did use our Hamburg card though - you'll get 2 euros off so an adult entry was 6 euros.

This is a well presented museum on 3 floors. The problem is that much of it deals with the trading links of the city, and i found this all rather dull.Curiously there is no mention of the period 1860 to 1945.Not nearly as good as similkar museums that i have visited in Munich and Ansterdam.
