“World class”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

The museum is a bit hard to navigate (it doesn't help that the hand-out map does not include all doors to the rooms) and the English audio tour does not include as many artworks as the German one. But none the less, this is a world class museum, with artworks from a series of the main painters, like Picasso, Munch, Monet, Degas, Renoir, Rembrandt...

The contemporary part was not as interesting, but that has to do with my tastes. A plus for allowing people to take photographs.

“Nice, skip the cube”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

I enjoyed this museum. They had nice classic pieces. It's a bit of a maze to navigate. I really didn't like the Cube except for the Paul Klee exhibit. The permanent exhibit was very annoying for my taste. It was full of loud, obnoxious video installations and forgettable art.

“Great, if and when you can find your way around”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

It is a pity that the pamphlet with the map of the site is minimalist: you need at least half a day to find your way around and have a look at the range of old and new masterworks that are spread throughout the building - and well worth the hunt when you find them. With a little more organisation, this could be a world-class facility.

“Some great works, but underwhelming”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

Some important and easily recognizable pieces (like Wanderer above the Sea of Fog by David Caspar Friedrich). Very interesting video installations. Otherwise a little repetitive and the rooms don't flow well.

“A confusing museum full of good pictures.”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

Even with a floor plan it is easy to get lost in this mueaum as it appears to have more than one entrance and book shop. Great collection of 19th & 20th Century art including Munch, Picasso and Nolde together with a good collection of German and French immpressionoists. Some large Alma Tademas and Pre- Raphealite pictures as well. At Euro 12 per head it is getting expensive - pensioners are half price on Fridays!
