Owner description: The idea is simple: In completely darkened rooms blind people lead small groups of guests through an exhibition in which everyday situations are experienced altogether differently, without eyesight. In the dark, the daily routine becomes a new experience. A reversion of roles is created: sighted people are confronted with different ways of perception; blind people provide them with security and a sense of orientation transmitting a world without pictures. In addition to the exhibition, we still offer the Dinner in the Dark, Seminars & Trainings in the dark, Brunch in Silence and other great events. The response is remarkable: Since 1988 "Dialog im Dunkeln" was presented in more than 30 countries and over 130 cities worldwide and it has reached up to 8 million visitors.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities, Lockers / storage, Food available for purchase, Wheelchair access, Activities for older children, Activities for young children, Stairs / elevator

“A Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

We came across Dialog im Dunkeln through Trip Advisor and were curious to find out what it was like.

Although we visited during the school half term holidays, I would strongly advise you book in advance to avoid disappointment, especially for non-German speakers, as there are only a limited number of tours in English.

The idea behind the project is to get you to experience day to day life through the eyes of a blind person. Equipped with canes, a blind (or partially slighted) guide leads you through different rooms and environments in complete darkness. Each room has new textures and sounds, and you are encouraged to learn to feel your way around.

They offer 60 minute and 90 minute tours, I would strongly recommend the latter! A very unique experience, one that certainly sticks with you after you have left.

“Never experienced anything like this before!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

I don't want to give everything away but you are lead by a blind tour guide through numerous different scenarios, in which you experience the everyday life of a blind person. Yes at the beginning it is a little bit scary and unnerving but the tour guide is so friendly and really makes you feel at ease! I don't want to say too much but if you get the opportunity you must visit this attraction! I had children in m tour group and they also loed the experience (however i wouldn't recommend very young children!). Unfortunately, the tour is currently only offered in German but our tour guide could speak some English.

“Mind opening experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

This exhibition has been around for over 20 years, in several cities. Not a necessity to go in Hamburg, however, its is an experience one should have at some point in life. Why not in this trip? It was a mind opening experience for me. Definitely recommend.
